I figured I'd try to create a constructive thread that addresses how we "ALL" would either coach or like to see how this team is coached.
Let's "ALL" bump heads and create the ultimate system, together!
What can possibly go wrong?

And go mofos!

Dump and chase using our speedy wingers, with Panarin leading the occasional rush. Stand up at the blue line with one forechecker up high (speedy forward); let active sticks cause turnovers and speedy defensemen fetch dump-ins. Collapse in front of the net, using the size of our LD and Trouba. Umbrella PP with Fox or Panarin at the top. It’s ugly hockey, but we don’t have the chemistry to do pretty things, and our defense isn’t good enough to play a more attractive system.

Emphasis would be on conditioning and strength.

Lines and D pair?
Need a speedster on each line, and I don’t want to separate KZB, so:
Kreider - Zib - Buch
Laf - Strome - Panarin
Chytil - Howden - Kakko
Lemieux - Rooney - Gauthier

Rationale:
- KZB works
- Laf can be gritty but is incredibly skilled; wouldn’t mind seeing him with Panarin just for a bit. This would be our puck possession line.
- Chytil with the speed; Howden is better than Rooney. Plying KK instead of Gauthier simply because I haven’t totally given up on KK yet.
- Remainders

Defense pairings:
- Lindgren - Fox
- KAM - Trouba
- Hajek - ADA

Rationale:
- Mix of size and skill
- KAM > Hajek; mostly Trouba > ADA
- Limited minutes for Hajek; ADA provides the offense

I can't see how anyone gives up on KK right now.
Kids a beast but much like every other player, he needs a system to follow IMO

If it were me, I'd go Lindgren- Trouba for the top pairing

I like Lindgren - Trouba once KAM develops. Guidance from Trouba (when he’s on his game) would benefit KAM enormously. KAM and Trouba also are two-way defensemen, I think, whereas our other LDs are defensive, and our other RDs are offensive. I’m going with the Stevens - Niedermeyer philosophy of one defensive and one offensive.

I'm all on board with all that.
My problem is KM clearly isn't ready yet and the fact that DQ put him on the top pairing.. Blows my mind.

Wtf is he thinking?

Couldn’t agree more. You’d think he’s the second coming of Lidstrom. On day one. Without a preseason. That’s unforgivably poor roster management.

Agreed 100%
As far as systems..
I want to see a hybrid system.
I won't get into detail tonight as I've been up since 2am but figure a cross between Tortz, Quinnville, AV and Laviolette

I wouldn't read much into his first game, i would have eased him in because its such a different game than he was used to but i still think he is ready once he gets a few games in and gets used to the pace and physicality.

C'mon clown.. Bring on your system lol
For the time being, as boring as it sounds, I would entertain a soft trap.

It’ll help out our crappy D and allow us to focus on counter attacking. We’re a team that scores in transition.

This will also play to Igors strength with his puck handling skills.

My only issue is I hate the f***ing trap. It’s not a system I would implement long term though.

1-2-2 to start games.
2-1-2 when down.
1-1-3 when up.
Box + 1 in the defensive zone.

The average age of the team is like 21. Keep it simple, and weed out the idiots who can’t follow simple instructions.

If our coaches are thinking tank that would explain a lot.

Uhhh...

Nevermind....

I’m not qualified to coach the team, but I’d like to see a more aggressive forecheck, a heavier and more physical bottom 6, and really just a more cohesive defensive system. I’m not sure if the lack of that system is a result of too much youth and inexperience and/or personnel or the coaching in general.

As for lines, I’m taking a swing on something a lot different:

Lafreniere - Zibanejad - Buch
Panarin - Strome - Gauthier
Kreider - Chytil - Kakko
Lemieux - Rooney - Howden

Rationale: Splits up the youth. Give Gauthier a chance in the top 6. Put Chytil and Kakko with a veteran who can do the dirty work and hopefully gives them better matchups. I’m swapping Kreider and Lafreniere more to help Chytil and Kakko. I think the Zib line will continue to run with him in the middle.

As for defense it’s a work in progress...
Today?

Smith - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
JJ / Miller / Robertson - ADA

Obviously, I’m hoping Miller settles in with Trouba then I try JJ and Smith with ADA and see what seems more consistent.
