Coaching is a serious problem.

You'd have to imagine St. Louis is on a bit of a hot seat internally. Hughes and Gorton were constantly talking about being in the mix late in the season and playing meaningful games in March/April, but here we are in early November and it already feels like we're done playing meaningful games.

Hughes and Gorton clearly thought this roster was capable of better results, so if they don't start seeing them then St. Louis will probably be gone before next season.
What did they expect though? They kept a peewee coach on board...the coaching staff in Laval are miles ahead in terms of experience. The coaching staff is responsible for developing the players...not the other way around? Do something before these players lose all confidence and don't regain it. I'm sure Laine is enjoying what he is seeing...ffs.

Right on.

Why do they try to re-invent the wheel every year ?
Agreed why don't they just hire a qualified coach to begin with...I was willing to see what the outcome was but yeah...this is no good. And for those calling to band-aid the situation by just adding an experience asst. coach...it still doesn't work imo...what experienced coach is going to want to report to a guy with almost no experience?

On Flames second goal...

This loss is on SmartyMarty system. Evans would normally pursue the puck carrier man/man, instead, pulls to a zone defsnse and the puck carrier had room to roam and set up a perfect slot shot.

This is getting tiring...

I think the problem with Martin is that he try to teach how he saw the game as a player. But he was a special kind of player, an all star. The average player probably doesn't connect with his way of seeing things.

OK

Definitely have reached the point I can no longer defend him

I haven't reached 'bashing him' level yet

So I'm just gonna sit like this for a while and re-assess later

Biggest red flag in his coaching was his belief he could make Josh Anderson improve his hockey IQ. You aint gonna magically make the guy smarter

3 goals from our D corps and one of those players is in Laval is really bad for a team that was in the top tier for D scoring last season.
It would be understandable if our team defense was stout but it's actually worse.
At one point Marty is going to have to stop deferring to Matheson all the time.

If Lane Hutson was on the 3v3 last evening he would have pounced on that lose puck off the draw.
At the very least he would have prevented Coronato from having so much space.
There was absolutely no reason for Matheson to be as passive as he was on that play.

The question is:

Will Hughes have the balls to fired MSL when it’s the time?

And if you ask me, the time is close as f***.

I remember when this thread was qualified as embarrassing for existing....

I'm now even further down the road. I initially thought replacing Robidas by someone more experienced would help MSL with defense, but after talking once again to a colleague who is a elite level coach in soccer, it's clear to him that it's imperative for the growth of our young players that a coach capable of teaching tactics be in charge. You don't become such a coach out of a cereal box and MSL is out of his depth at this point. Some people think he may grow with the teeam, but it's not how it works unfortunately.
