Coaching is a serious problem.

Finally putting Evans in the 2nd line is a good move. He's motivated and effective this year.

In term of consistency in quality of plays he's been our best center this season, which kind of illustrate a problem we have. Evans on the top6 isn't a good news, but he is the only legit candidate to do it at the moment.

Pierre Lebrun on BPM Sport just said that he spoke with people around the league on Habs difficulties and many think they miss an experienced assistant coach and the lost of Luke Richardson was bigger then we could thought
It's at the Captain Obvious stage with our coaching.

SmartyMarty is over his head. Period. If he knows it and waiting for help, he keeps his job. If he's resisting, one foot is out the door...soon to be joined by the other foot as soon as a suitable coach is available.

I reaaly hope Pascal Vincent will get a chance someday. He learned under Paul Maurice for a long long time. He wants his players to finish all of their hits, he embraces physical team ala florida.

Mailloux comments after last game are very telling. Have you guys heard that.

St-Louis is a bad. Clock is ticking like Bergevin said.

I do think Vincent should have been the assistant of MSL and Favreau, who is having an awesome start with a rebuilding team, the HC with Laval.

Yes, but Vincent should be HC.

At best, MSL is a assitant. He sucks at everything a HC do.

I didn't hear Logan's comments. Can you summarize?

Is hard to believe this team had 16 OT points last season. We can barely reach OT with losing by 3-6 points.

We are only above San Jose by one single point. The only sadder team than us is Buffalo Sabers. Another year with out making it to the playoff.

You would think a young coach like MSL would take Vet coach as his assistant. Yet, we keep hiring rookie like Alex Burrows....

Mailman thought that the defensive "systems" the Habs are employing are different and the coach corrected him.
last year was a glitch in the Matrix my man! The whole team played above their heads just like 2022-2023 where we shouldve drafted top 3. This year goalies are back to their almost AHL level, Slaf is soft, Suzuki is soft, Caufield is soft but scored 10 goals, we keep entering the head of Xhekaj, we put Dach on pp1 when hes not really at all. I mean a top 3 pick is necessary if you want a cup one day in 7 years

The reality is you cant win with the kind of top 9 that we have. Our 3 line is a 4th line and our 2nd line is a 3rd line and our 1st line is a 2nd line. Our only top 4 D man IMO is Matheson but hes a guy that should get 19 minutes per game, not 28.

HuGo are aware that you build championship teams by drafting elite core players. They're doing this by purpose. I believe MSL will be here 1 more season and after that a guy like Vincent and his staff will take over to bring this team into playoffs.

Friedmann had an interesting part on MSL on 32 Thoughts, starts around 15:00. Not sure if that sounds positive to me.

That sounded like a stubborn person even if he’s wrong lol

When you’re a superstar player, it’s a good trait. When you’re a bad inexperienced coach, it’s a bad combinaison.

Are there any former superstar players who became great coaches?

I did found it positive

He’s someone who will put everything he had to prove that he can be a good coach and I do think he have many qualities to become a great coach. The only thing that worried me, it’s that he look like someone who have a big ego and think he can do everything by himself.

Even Jeff Gorton suggest him to bring an experience coach in the staff but he refused and after he didn’t want to hire someone for his PP

Was asked after the game how the system was similar in MTL and Laval. Mailloux responded by saying it was not the same thing, clearer in Laval.

Then Vincent in his PC said it was the same but he made his own tweaks. So, its in fact different in MTL.

St-Louis is lost.

I think people should watch a Laval game and look at two things in the D zone : slot coverage (if the center is pressuring a Dman, a forward takes his place there), Dmen positioning (one Dman always close to the net when the other one puts pressure on the puck carrier). Maybe it the same philosophy but the Habs never do that they are too far from their area when pressuring and nobody covers the dangerous areas.

Now it may just be that the AHL is slower and hence players have more time to come back or it may be a coaching failure in the NHL. Right now I lean towards the second but I hope I am wrong for the sake of the games I will watch this year ;)
