Coaching is not a f***ing problem. Building a team after a decade+ of ignoring a salary capped expanding league with profit sharing socialist scheme is. If our franchise could levy the might of its fan based monetary contributions? With contracts? It would offset the "fair weather" and toxic media.

And his record was better than MSL who is coaching the "in the mix" Habs. I was simply pointing out that being an elite player doesn't necessarily translate into being good enough to jump from peewee to the NHL. Of course there are former players who are good coaches but, I can't recall any successful ones that didn't coach at relevant levels before being handed NHL coaching jobs. I may be wrong....

It's something across all sports that I see. The prodigies don't really have success. It's like Diego Maradona coaching Argentina. How is he going to coach his god given talent into his players..... how can he understand that players can't do what he was able to do?

I guess maybe Larry bird is an exception? He seemed to have a certain level of success in Indiana, but I can't say for sure whether he was a great coach.

In hockey, Larry Robinson seems to have some success as well. I'm not sure he enjoyed the day to day grind of it though, and it was affecting his health from what I recall.

What do you mean by 'in the mix' Habs? In the mix for a playoff spot? We're horrible.

People will always use Gretzky as an example, that's fair, but it doesn't mean MSL and other HHOer's will also fail, just because Gretzky did.
I know we're horrible and I'm not the one who came up with that phrase. All the players and management were saying they'll be in the mix this year.

Ok, fair enough, forget 99. I just wish we had hired someone with professional coaching experience that's all. This has the Mario Tremblay disaster written all over it.

I think MSL is built different. I don't think he will fail.

We're still well within the rebuild, let's not forget, and the season just started.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to surround him with a very experienced asst. coach,

But otherwise, IMO, let him cook.

There are very few coaches who would be able to teach our young guys like him (and even vets). Add in a pure X/O guy, sure, but IMO we should be thankful to have a guy like MSL as coach.

You're 100% right. It's weird, you'd think it would be the opposite

Time to track down and torch Marty's advisors. :sarcasm:

WTF is with this Arber Xhekaj BS?
There are way too many rumors coming to the fore for my liking.
This isn't going to end well for anyone...

Time for Knuckles to take Matheson under his wing. :help:

I never paid attention.

Details pls?

It was nuts, bro. He always sent his goons when Phoenix were losing. My kind of guy. I remember a game agains the Habs, it was pretty insane. BGL got involved, etc...

I noticed something similar as well when Patrick Brisebois was coaching during "Quebec-Montreal series" during the lockout, guys that were recognized as soft when they were playing ends being literal monsters as coaches.

They are last or near last in every defensive category. They have been badly outplayed 6 of 7 games. Have you watched them play?

Every talking head from Nilan, Green, McGuire, Corrado, and on have ripped their defensive play apart. Yeah, Bombay is doing just fine. No coaching improvement is needed.

How about: have the team ready to play, adapt D structure so they aren’t pinned in their zone forever, reduce the high quality chances, dont get badly out shot every night, look interested. To name a few of the many.

Lots of areas to improve. Once again, not expecting him to turn team into powerhouse, just improve a little so they don’t play like an expansion team.

Losing right now is ok but not competing, not being ready, and getting steamrolled almost every night isn’t.
Word salad.

What should he do? Be specific.

Word salad because it’s bang on and you being a MSL fan boy can’t admit he needs to be better.

If the PP sucks, they work on it in practice, they change the personelle, they watch video, they adapt what they are doing, etc That’s coaching, same applies to all the deficiencies I already outlined. Coaches figure out what’s not working, individually and as a group and find ways to improve. That’s what he is getting paid a lot to do. 32nd isn’t good enough.

Are you going to tell me coaching doesn’t need to be better when this team is last or near last in every defensive category. Players need to be better, and coaching staff needs to be better. He needs to figure it out.

Shit, play the trap if need be. If guys are not working, put them in the stands. Call a time out once in a while, lol. Clearly what they are doing now isn’t going very well.

If you can’t see it or admit it then there isn’t much more to discuss. Bye.

tbf,

He's been in the NHL forever and is a hockey fall of famer.

He's been through a ton of coaches, so he has definite on the job training.
Mario Tremblay won 5 Cups and played under Scotty Bowman for about 7 years, we saw how great of a coach Mario became....

Word salad.

I think MSL simply doesn't have enough good players or experienced enough D to make any system work. Rebuild is on going.

Yes, he doesn’t have the squad to compete but he has to try something. If his personelle can’t do the system he wants, he better tweak it or they will get smoked all year. It’s insane to think he doesn’t need to be better, they all do, including Hugo who provided him with this thin D core.

If the team you have is incapable of playing a certain way you need to adjust. It will be interesting how the Habs play against a very good St. Louis team tomorrow.

I think the woman behind the bench in Seattle has more experience coaching than MSL.
How do you know? Be specific.

Exactly, that’s what good coaches do.

Tomorrow night will be very telling. They better be prepared right from puck drop. Watched the blues leafs, blues play with pace and work really hard.

Unfortunately, I will as well.

Really hope they come out and compete.
During a rebuild all I want as a fan is a good effort win or lose. I don't want to watch amateur hour.
One thing that can't be overstated is how brutal some of the vets have been. MSL should consider sitting someone like Dvorak if he doesn't start bringing more.

I agree 100%

That’s pretty much what I have been saying. Their play has been expansion like right from day 1. Everyone has to be better.

20 million of your cap space goes to Gallagher, Anderson, Armia and Dvorak. Bergevin's legacy.

If they can find someone to take Andy or gally in the summer they should buy them out and be done with it.

Bergy really Fd up the salary cap with shitty contracts.

If these guys remotely brought something it would be somewhat digestible but other than Gallagher hustling these guys bring nothing. The old Armia is back, Anderson skates miles and miles to nowhere and I haven't figured out what Dvorak has ever brought.

Calling me a fanboy is not an answer. Nothing that you said earlier is an answer. I asked you a specific question and you came back with rantings.

This is exactly what I’m taking about. The PP is working at 23.5 percent. So why are you bringing this up? You have no idea what’s going on here. We’re losing so you scream at the coach. It’s dumb.

You don’t seem to have any real ideas here. Saying ‘play more defensively’ isnt saying anything at all.

The team is doing poorly and you’re sitting there without any real clue screaming “The coach sucks! Fire him!”
