If everyone thought he was spectacular, he wouldn't have settled for a HC position on a budget team, likely paying him less than most of the other HCs in the league. There should have been a bidding war for him, and Eugene doesn't overpay for anything.

I very much believe that he's not a good HC but could be great as an assistant coach, and there's nothing wrong with that. Our team was too good on paper to have such a garbage 5 on 5 goal differential.
Right.

Just like there's a bidding war for all the other guys that are trying to jump into a head coaching job for the first time in the NHL

It's possible to be a good coach but not a good head coach. I guess we'll find out how many teams want him when he leaves Ottawa, hopefully soon.

I'm glad you're happy about being in the Arizona Coyotes territory of GD, despite them spending 37M on their 18 players. 4 goals separating these two teams is disgraceful.

The apologists have a little more time to bask in the glow of Dorion and DJ.

I would guess everyone stays in place unless they resign.. for a bit yet. I don't know how quick this all gets the go ahead from the NHL and the board of governors or what they have to do logistically. Any guesses on how long this takes to get the new owners steering the ship?

I’d expect some moves over the next couple weeks. He/they must have an idea of what they want to do. No point in waiting.

Should get interesting now but I suspect given the improvements of the team that not much will change leading up to the start of the season. Somehow I always thought that Andlauer would win given his association with the Montreal Canadians & being part of the board of govenors. To me it was the devil you know scenario & they knew him & he's a stable owner. While some other bids seemed to have in place some big changes I don't remember this guy saying very much about next step scenarios. I assume the one thing he puts in place pretty quickly is a President who could end up being one of the Board members like Anthony Leblanc. They will need to reach out to the business community to bring them back & invess in the team. Hopefully, he turns into a good owner & gives them the money they need when they need it, we''ll see

When was the last time a fired Sens head coach got another head coaching job ever again in the NHL? In a league that recycles head coaches likes newspapers.

I mean just look at the list. Maybe it's a sign we don't hire qualified head coaches.
I guarantee you DJ will get hired again. He did an excellent job on the rebuild and got many of the young players to where they are today.

Lovers gonna love.

I wonder how long they'll hold on for after he's gone.

I was wondering which direction you were going to take this. Must be uncomfortable for you having to defend Dorion and DJ while they don’t seem to be seeing eye to eye as much as they used to.

Spin it all you want. Dorion’s comments are making it clear he and DJ aren’t necessarily a package deal. Maybe he’s just not as loyal to DJ as you are.
Uhmm, I kind just said that in the post you quoted.

I was curious if you were going to read the words or simply jump to your ‘clever’ reply. Looks like I have my answer.

I think PD knows he’s on his way out, especially since the bids started to leak their ‘hockey guys’ in the media. This seems to correspond with him saying less about actual future Sens business, and talk more about recommendations instead of plans.

Saying he’ll make his recommendation on DJ to the new owner pretty much spells out what he thinks is going to happen in terms of his own job security. And it does DJ a disservice if the outgoing guy makes too much of the relationship in public as he departs.

As usual defending management or the team in general from childish and usually nonsensical internet behaviour is something I don’t mind doing as a fan, it’s a full time job in here, and thankfully I share it with others.

You guys will simply change whipping boys, as always, and I’ll continue doing my thing.

All the experts in here won’t lose their qualifications just because we have a new owner lol!!

Going to be interesting to see. My belief is that if he decides to stay in the NHL and he gets another HC opportunity, it'll be with another non-competitive budget team or as an assistant coach on a good team. I don't see him getting any lucrative HC opportunity without more experience.

The question now is what do we expect from our team in October and November and why do we think things will be different this year in comparison to before if we give DJ another chance. I honestly don’t think anything will change. Another slow start and then battling for the rest of the year. I like the guy from what I’ve seen but I think he keeps failing in motivating our players to be ready to play right away. Not to start doing that in December.

The Party goes on ... Looks like the Boys will be back running the show at least to get us into training camp.. quite probably to start the season .
Big summer .. still some heavy lifting to do.

Lets hope for some good results filling in the roster and getting the season off to a good start.

I don’t always bother engaging with the content of your posts because I know you’ll just be rehashing whatever spin puts sens management in the most positive light.

I can engage with the content if you want.

You’re right that it’s not surprising that Dorion wasn’t committing to a single course of action at season’s end when it comes to DJ. Impending change in ownership is certainly a factor. It was also clearly a factor in November. His endorsement in November came just a few days after the sale process was officially launched.

The fact of the matter is that in November he chose, with an impending sale, to back up DJ 100% . A few months later, he took a very different position and made comments about their disagreements. That’s not PD’s MO, for all his faults he tends to back up his coaches and make a unified front (at least until he’s done with them).

It was very noticeable for most people, including fans and media who follow the team. That’s why I raised it as a pretty clear example that DJ isn’t getting complimented by people in the industry from every angle.

The fact that serious sports reporters (as opposed to fans on message boards/podcasters/twitter folks) caught on the same story gives the lie to your immature effort to frame fair questions as childish or nonsensical.

Spinning fake news arguments and burying your head in the sand won’t change what’s going on in reality.

We’re getting close to the end of the line of the Dorion/Smith eras and I’m looking forward to fresh eyes and ideas taking this team to a new level.
