Do you seriously think that SJ, with Celebrini/Schaefer/McKenna, would endure a fate even remotely similar to Edmonton with Hall/RNH/Yak?Only three teams in NHL history have ever drafted first overall 3 years running. Quebec in the late 80s, who ended up moving 5 years later, and Edmonton, who only still has RNH to show for them. I’d rather not be the third.
Who knows? Edmonton also had 4 in 6 and one of those non was Leon at 3 and they still can’t win a cup.Do you seriously think that SJ, with Celebrini/Schaefer/McKenna, would endure a fate even remotely similar to Edmonton with Hall/RNH/Yak?
Winning a Cup also requires a lot of luck. If we turn into the Oilers - a now perennial playoff team - we should be happy.Who knows? Edmonton also had 4 in 6 and one of those non was Leon at 3 and they still can’t win a cup.
Sure. If we end up with 2 of the 3 best players on the planet including one who may already be top ten all-time that would be lovely, although if we go through another run of being favorites and not succeed I don’t think I could handle it.Winning a Cup also requires a lot of luck. I mean, things go south really fast for this team because they're bereft of talent. At least a quarter, maybe a third, of the team iced every game does not belong in the NHL at all, and almost everyone else is playing at least one line too high.I think as much as Sharks are a bad team right now, I would dare to argue that at this point of the season it has become more of a mental thing. It repeats itself over and over again even though they can have a good game or a lead in 3rd period. The good news is that they can look good at games, but they can't finish them.
Young guys are trying to fight through by showing progress, but they can't catch a single break and when things look good for a hot minute, it goes south the next minute. It's kinda unfortunate, I hope this season goes out as an clear exception in Celebrini era.
I'm hopeful things are going to change next year. Celebrini can be the ''captain'' next year even without the C letter necessary. There is going to be a fresh squad (hopefully), a season to look for (0-0 situation), Celebrini/Smith will be one season wiser and better and rest of the group locked and ready to go!
You deflected from my point by sharing a conspiracy theory.Pitts was basically given Sidney coming off a lockout as a promise to Mario for buying the team.
Oh no doubt. However, i would be very concerned about the team if Grier attempts to make the team better and they end up just as bad. That would mean either no one took the next step (like Bedard) or Askarov struggled. You deflected from my point by sharing a conspiracy theory.
I hope we don't pick top 3 next year and I'm positive Grier doesn't want that (he was hoping we'd finish around 6-8 worst this year) but if we somehow are still in the bottom, we take the pick and try again in 2027.
I think it's less about talent and more about leadership. When your coach is a rookie and your best players are 21 and under there's a major leadership problem. That's why when things start to go bad the team just looks like the keystone copsI mean, things go south really fast for this team because they're bereft of talent. I think having a bunch of AHL filler in the lineup every night is a much more likely contributor to our plight than an undefinable leadership problem. We suck because we're playing guys like Goodrow, Kunin, Dellandrea, Grundstrom, Sturm, Ferraro, Rutta, Vlasic, Thrun, and Georgiev in large numbers every night.I think it's less about talent and more about leadership. At this stage specifically, it's more like 50-55% of the team being iced don't belong in the NHL. Higher when you include the goalies.I mean, things go south really fast for this team because they're bereft of talent.
