If they build this they'll get a Super Bowl in return like Indy, Detroit and Minnesota did but that's likely going to be a one time thing. Aside from other events such as Wrestlemania and the Final Four.

This needs to be delayed until their current stadium hosts a Browns playoff game. As it is, the Browns have not had a home playoff game since 1994 at the old stadium.

Would have to see how many more events those 3 domed stadiums in the Great Lakes area get that an open air stadium doesn’t from Oct to March. Indy for this year I saw that they had 12 entertainment events (but 3 of those events were multiple performances) so really like 5/6 unique events. And like 4 sporting events.

Seems like the translucent domes are the trend moving forward. Washington would be up soon to replace their stadium. Tenn is doing a translucent dome for theirs.

Going to lose outdoor football in the North.

I'm not familiar with the construction industry in the Cleveland area, but I dont see this being open until the start of the next decade by the time they sort out financing and begin construction. Since I'm an ass, I'm gonna remind everyone that we're 5 months from the midpoint of this decade already.

Outdoor football is going to be extinct period in some of our lifetimes.

I won't be shocked if we've seen the last new outdoor stadium get built.

Goodell seems actively hostile to the idea and the trend is heavily favoring indoor stadiums, which blows.

The packers might be the only one that will retain their outdoor stadium.

Bills new one has not roof and is under construction. But, you have to wonder when the stadiums in NE, NY, Phi, Bal, KC, etc. reach the point where they think about replacing it with a new stadium, will they go with the translucent roof or some type of retractable one?

I hope Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse sues to block construction of the dome fearing losing events to it. I'd much rather have title games in Cleveland played in cold weather.

I get that you can sue borderline anyone for anything, but I fail to see how an arena would have standing to sue a stadium over presupposed lost revenues due to a stadium design.

And I get it, NFL in the elements is fantastic.... on TV. Live though, it stinks. I can fault the Browns for many, many, many things, but wanting a dome isn't one of them.

Besides, it would be wrong if Huntington Bank Field closed without ever hosting an NFL playoff game of any kind. Which is why I am adamant it get Super Bowl 63 as a means of sending the venue off in style in case the Browns don't host one themselves.

Have to see how many other events Indy, Minny, Det host with their domes vs others in the area without a dome. Is that worth the extra cost?

I do not know if the cost of having a retractable dome is going to be worth it for the limited times you’d want to open it a year.

Plus all you see is the sky above the playing surface given the size of the stadium and 70k capacity. Is that really enough to feel outdoors?

Hopefully the mandate is natural grass for all of these northern stadiums going with a dome either with a rollout like LV and AZ or something like Tottenham stadium where they can swap out the grass field in 3/4 segments to display a field turf surface.

Metlife isn't that old, will be another 20 years, at least, for that craphole to be replaced.

Commodores owner has been vocal about his preference for the outdoor football experience, and they’re expected to build a new stadium in the next 5-10 years. Although that could also mean they go with a retractable dome

Events like what? WrestleMania/Final Fours are at the point where regular arenas are too small, only certain musical acts can sell out a 70K seat stadium, the rest will still play at RM Fieldhouse.

Roger Goodell is almost 70 years old. He will be dead by the time most teams in the north are looking for new stadiums.

The trend was against building indoor stadiums for 20 years, it was for building them for 20 years before that. It wasn't that long ago that the Ford family was investigating adding a retractable window in Detroit because they were on the tail end of the initial indoor stadium fad. Now everyone wants a dome again. By the time a team like Philadelphia is looking for a new stadium, the trend will have switched again, and everyone will talk about how the elements are a home field advantage

The trend towards domes has very little to do with football reasons, so any perceived on-field advantage will not factor into the reasoning.

Let's have RM Fieldhouse join in on that lawsuit so they can protect their status as the only major indoor venue in the area

They hold vastly different events than what would be held in an indoor stadium of that size. Events like Wrestlemania and the Final Four aren't going to be held in an arena like RM Fieldhouse. Neither are concerts by the biggest names in music, so the Fieldhouse isn't at risk of any events.

This hasn't been an issue for any area that's seen an indoor football stadium built.

Yep. It’s about the lost opportunity between late Sept to early April that you can not book an event due to weather. Plus the exposure to the elements likely takes its toll on the interior faster.

Not sure if a retractable roof really adds much given the relatively small opening. What percentage are the roofs in Indy, Atl, Dallas, Houston, AZ opened in their existence? Going more with the La and LV and Minny domes. Teams need to either do a rollout surface like Az or LV or do what they do at the new Tottenham stadium to remove the grass in 3 large sections.

There would be no stopping things like Disney on Ice from going to Brook Park if the dome is built to take advantage of the larger capacity. And I'm sure RM Fieldhouse would not like it.
