Curious if the premise of deal makes sense to both teams.

Overpaid 3rd pairing defenseman signed up 2 more years at 3.25

For

Former captain/3rd line grinder on decline signed to longer deal. I'd expect enough retention to match salary.

Thoughts from both sides?

Ducks move defenseman they don't need and add experience experience/grit to 3rd line.

Kings get solid bottom pairing defenseman that helps team more than brown.

Only issue with this is, Stoner doesn't suck, while Brown does!

Stoner is really just overpaid a million or so a year.

Brown is a 4th liner at this point. Guy can't skate anymore and he looks like a shell of his former self.

From the ducks perspective I look at it would I rather have stoner as my 7th/8th dman or have brown playing in my third line.

Meh. If I'm moving Stoner for an overpaid forward, I'd rather go for someone with a similarly overseeable term.

The idea of Brown in a Ducks jersey, and the Kings moving him with retention for an overpaid defender to Anaheim, of all teams, does seem quite crazy, too.

The Ducks and Kings just doesn't trade with eachother often. Off the top of my head I can't think of any notheworthy trade made between them. Actually the only trade I think of at all was the one that brought Jean-Sebastian Aubin to Anaheim. Or Portland, rather.

Stoner is a 31 year old bottom pairing defensive defensemen with very limited mobility and puck moving skills. He's exactly what NHL team's are moving away from when it comes to defenders. If he was a UFA right now he would almost assuredly not have a contract, maybe a PTO but a guy like Gryba who's a similar player, younger, right handed and IMO a better player then Stoner is sitting at home without a contract right now.

He's quickly becoming obsolete and a lot of teams would rather feed those bottom pairing minutes to younger, cheaper options with more possible upside.

With the Ducks being a budget team, how would this ever work? And in regards to the cap and not actual salary, they would sooner bury Clayton, and pay the 2+ million for the next 2 years.

no way would Anaheim take that contract on

plus they are a budget team

plus its anaheim lol

meaning that its already difficult as it is to trade with Cali teams

and in terms of the deal, Brown its the better player, Stoner is useless, but Brown's contract is too intense

LA would most likely say yes
ANA would most likely say no

but i think LA is trying Brown for one more season before they buy him out for good anyways

Yes because of absurdity of it.

Real answer, no way.

Also, Stoner isn't useless or garbage. He's a perfect fit on the third pairing with a puck moving offensive defenseman, like Vatanen. Honestly, Stoner really helped Vats up his offensive game. That said, he's still overpaid by a million or so and the league seems to be pushing away from defenseman like Stoner.

Brown would actually make the Ducks a better team, and he fits in well with the aging group of guys they have over there that are all seeing their production fall off a cliff as we speak.

Don't need 3rd pairing D from the Ducks. Wouldn't mind an offersheet fired at one of their RFA's though. :)
