With the offense this close, I prefer the forward who's 4 inches and 40 pounds larger and doesn't need to be shifted to wing to hide deficiencies.
With the offense being close you take the guy who's better defensively and that isn't Getzlaf. Also the offense isn't at all close from 2010 to recent.

Giroux quite easily, especially in the regular season. The playoffs definitely favors Getzlaf, but not nearly enough to close the gap.

That’s a 5 point per 82 game difference, it’s pretty close if you ask me.

And I don’t know how you conclude Giroux is better defensively, Getzlaf has him easily beat there and didn’t have to move to wing as he aged.

Wings fan here. Getzlaf always looked like a monster against Detroit and he had some very close matchups with Datsyuk and Zetterberg over the years. Claude Giroux would have been eaten alive by Detroit's centers from 2008 to 2016. Getzlaf did not.

Points per game average aside, this one isn't close for me.

Somebody change my mind but I feel like this isn't particularly close

It's definitely close because I have no idea which player you're implying that it's "not close" in favour of...

Both were elite #1 centres who were routinely in the second tier of centres behind the Crosby, Malkin, and maybe temporarily Stamkos's of the world, both were team Canada worthy, both are borderline HOF'ers.

I really can't decide.

Can I vote for Getzlaf again? Really, two very similar offensive players, but one guy is far bigger, better defensively, and will play mean. Giroux is a good player, but he’s not even close to Getzlaf in helping his team win in ways beyond just putting up points.

Giroux

Getzlaf played on way better teams and still produced about the same or less than Giroux

Getzlaf was #2 in 2012 IMO and Giroux was #2 in the league in 2014.

Both great players, and good comparisons. Lacks hardward and a tad of longevity to be HOFers, but just under.

Went with Getzlaf because he's a superior player all over the baord.

I agree with this but I do think that Giroux was the better PP player for most of their careers, so thats something to consider too.
