Giroux would cost us a fortune. Also he has a right handed stick, I personally like the same handed stick on the wing, with exceptions for guys like Ovechkin. It would obviously be a massssssive upgrade, price would probably be way too high for us. 1st + Amirov or Robertson would probably be the asking price, and maybe a little more.

The way I see it though, having Amirov/Robertson step into the lineup as regulars on ELCs is worth much more to us. They'll be able to chip in for 3 years on ELCs. You're trading like 3-5 year window with one of those guys + whatever their future holds, for 1 year of Giroux. It's a big risk play, it could work out but it could also bite us in the ass. Raptors made that blockbuster for Leonard and it worked out, Giroux is still an elite talent in the league. I personally would prefer holding onto our young prospects, as their cap hit is extremely valuable to this team going forward. Or if we are moving them to "win now" I would prefer to get another top 4 defender, I think we'll need that more than we need offence come playoffs.

The 2 pieces we "need" imo are a top 4 RD and a top 6 LW. Kerfoot and Bunting have both been great, but realistically neither are true top 6 guys, but they have both played extremely well this season.

I would also be going for Giordano because I feel like if you add Giroux and Giordano or Giordano and some other top 6 winger at that point you are the favorite.

this team is currently sitting 1st overall in the league I think you need to be looking for the final piece

Do you trust Marner, Matthews, JT, Nylander, Campbell, Rielly to carry you past the first round (let alone win the cup)? I don't. It doesn't matter who you add, those are the players that will carry the Leafs, and I simply don't think they have it in them. If Dubas wastes more assets and the team loses in the first round again, he should and will be fired. IMO, the smart play is stick with what you got. Show me they can win a round, or 2. I don't think anyone that you can reasonably acquire will be a difference maker. The guys that are currently in the dressing room are the ones that will carry you or choke again. Giroux, or JT Miller, or whoever is available won't make a difference.

Giroux would be a substantial TDL add for a contender.

Can play all 3 forward positions. Is an elite PP player and a solid PKer. One of the best face off guys in the league. Great playmaker and has become a better goal scorer with age.

Picks wont be enough. Your team would have to be willing to give up a top prospect or a talented young nhl player.

I think another top 6 player could make a huge difference I think last season showed that, they literally came 1 goal short, 1 more top 6 player probably gets that goal.

As for if I trust them, I won't fully trust them until they win a series.

That being said I will tell you this I have watched this team for 20 years I have never seen them this good defensively or this committed to defense.

I have seen them at best not give a shit about defense and at worst just be disgraceful at it.

They do seem to have a playoff like effort on defense most nights

You're right on that, I have also watched this team for 20 years and this is the best they have played defensively. And now the offence is starting to score more often. They do look impressive, I admit, but I refuse to get overly excited.

Sign me up for this. I'm willing to give up our first and any prospect in our system out side of a Finish defenceman (yes, I can't spell his name and am to lazy to look it up). We're the best team in the league right now. I'm willing to go somewhat all in this year. Add to pieces like this, one up front and we're favorites to win the cup. IDC about our problems so far in the playoffs. This team is deep at forward, defence and has maybe the best goalie in the league right now. Go for it and give me Giroux

I really despise the thought of Giroux playing for anyone but us, but I understand why he'd want to go to win a Cup.

He's a freak, y'all. Whoever gets him will love having him (if we trade him, of course).

I think he might be the crown jewel at the deadline

Liljegren 1st and maybe kerfoot for cap purposes.

While a high end prospect is essential to any deal my objective in trading giroux is to put him in the best possible position to win a cup and that doesn't happen with taking more than is necessary off the trade partners roster

Does Claude Giroux give a team a better shot of winning the cup = 100% YES - ANY TEAM
- especially the leafs - where he could easily slide shotgun to matthews or tavares on the LW PLUS provide an extra faceoff guy

the only question/debate is "At what cost"?

This would be a PURE rental - for example you know he is gone next year for sure
- so does giving up a Robertson, PLUS , PLUS worth it?
well how much do you want to roll the dice?

IMO if they leafs could somehow ADD

Giroux and Giordano - they would have NO HOLES and would be one of the TOP 3-4 favourites

is it worth losing - Robertson, Amirov, 1st, and 2nd (which is what it would take)? I SAY YES

Giroux - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Kase - Kampf - Kerfoot
Simmonds - Spezza - Ritchie/Mikheyev/Engvall

- some of Engvall/Mik/Ritchie to do for pick(s)

Rielly - Brodie
Giordano - Holl
Muzzin - Sandin/Liljegren/Dermott

- some to go in part of deals or reacquire assets/picks

If you are thinking of acquiring both p,Ayers st 25%, what are you giving to the middle man in these deals?

Well SJ got a 4th for retaining on Foligno and Toronto got a 5th for retaining on Lehner so the going rate seems to be mid round picks

I was going to make this thread last night but I wanted to see what the result of tonight's games before I did.

Everybody knows the Leafs do need a top 6 LW although some may disagree after tonight's result but LW is still the weakest point on the roster.

Claude Giroux would address that it would probably take double rentention but Giroux would be a perfect fit for our top 6.

I feel like a top 6 LW might be the final piece that is needed

LOL. Here we go again. What "big name" player is out there, will make their way into Leaf fan's trade-for threads. Sure, let's zip out soon and grab Giroux. Why not?

Robertson can only contribute if he can stay healthy and that's been an issue
