Why would Newhook be offered up for a rental? Seems extremely short sighted. Barron+ is most I would consider.
No way I’d offer Barron. None. Lots the of available players to go after if the Flyers GM is looking to hit a home run. NMC will really limit his options.

First of all if we are trading for Giroux, Kerfoot is gone. Either in the same deal or a different one. So are Mikheyev, Holl, and/or Ritchie. Secondly what are we trading for Giroux? Is Robertson on the table? Is Sandin on the table? Are both? Because that is likely the kind of package that the Leafs would have to put forth to win a bidding war. And we know Dubas doesn't like dealing top prospects for rentals

The Leafs are 29-10-3, yes Robertson should be on the table, everything, literally EVERYTHING in terms of picks, prospects, young players should be on the table.

The Rams went all in this past off season and now they are in the superbowl.

The Bucs went all in 2 years ago and they won the superbowl.

The Raptors went all in, in 2019, they won the NBA championship.

There comes a point where it's time to go all in.

The Leafs are 29-10-3, this is the best roster they have had in 20 years and that includes last year.

It's time to go all in.

No way I target a player of Barron's level as a flyers fan. I'm looking for better.

I have no idea where Giroux ends up, but I'd highly encourage you to reset your standards on what you expect back for a 34 UFA rental who is literally going to choose where he wants to go.

If the Flyers get a single piece as valuable as Barron I'd be quite surprised.

34 UFA future HOf'er rental is more valuable than you think, apparently. David freaking Savard fetched a 1st and a 3rd. G has waived his NMC and flyers are actively shopping him right now so it's not some "waiting on pins and needles to be held hostage" low-leverage scenario like all the Avs fans are hoping.

I would target the caps and ask for a 1st and McMichael.
If Mantha is LTIR until postseason, Caps would be interested at 50%.

That said, CMM would probably be off the table.

2022 first
2023 second

Does this get it done?

Given the usual arms race of teams at the top, I'd be surprised. But who knows.

at the deadline his cap hit will be less than 4 lol
That's not how it works. Cap hits don't decrease throughout the season, the buying power of a teams capspace increases because the original team has already paid a portion of the contract. Same as last deadline.

Nonsense. Newhook has far more value than that. Giroux has a big cap hit and he’s a rental. Plus a full NMC. Philly can’t shop him league wide.

base of any deal is a 1st rounder.
Newhook is expected to be a contributor in a cup run. Byram probably not and Barron is an offer worth considering but other teams will offer similar pieces.

Liljegren from Toronto brisson from Vegas lapierre from Washington Bourgeois from Edmonton coronato from Calgary
These are guys that I see as competitive offers from teams in the hunt

It should be 1st and a prospect. Not someone of newhook calibre but he should get a 1st + decent prospect easily. If he opens up to 5-7 teams, I’m sure someone will offer that. It’s up to fletcher not to be f***ing stupid

The Caps wouldnt do that for a rental. Not close. Facts are that if Giroux wants to play for the Capitals, Washington wouldnt have to break the bank to get him.
What about lapierre? He's in a position of need for Philly

I think Giroux gets a 1st and an A- prospect. Don't think that is his true value, but it is his market value. Just my gut talking but I don't buy the shuttle thing either. Maybe Giroux wants to stay in the East, but I can't see why.....

Capitals are indeed a team to watch as they have the need and aggressiveness, assuming Mantha is done for the year. I, however, do not think they will have cap space after they get a goalie.

I think you’ll be surprised but there’s one way to find out.

Ray Bourque got his wish to play for a contender as the Boston Bruins traded him to the Colorado Avalanche for three players and a first round draft pick.
"We limited ourselves to teams where Raymond Bourque would have a chance to win the Stanley Cup," Bruins general manager Harry Sinden said after Boston's 5-1 loss to Ottawa.
The 39-year-old defenseman was traded along with forward Dave Andreychuk for forward Brian Rolston, defenseman Martin Grenier, center Sami Pahlsson and Boston's choice of a first-round pick in either 2000 or 2001
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Maybe we should look to history and see what trades were in situations like G.

G is 34. Um Bourque was 5 years older and gm's were dying to get him.

For a 39 year old Bourque and an old fa pending Andreychuk the Bruins got a
1
former 2 who busted
very young depth player
and a 27 year old Rolston who did really well for Bruins.

Minimum cost is 1 and a- prospect for G.

And as long as Avs fans trust their goalie situation its a no brainer. G on line 2 gives avs easily best 2nd line in playoffs and backup plan in case Kadri goes full Kadri again. If Goalie is Colorado's number 1 concern, then having a backup plan for Kadri is absolutely 2. You really think TBL fans are crying over the high cost of Savard after they won the cup?

Any idea what Giroux is expected to get this off-season? Do people think he’ll just go back to the Flyers? If a team thinks they’ll have a chance to extend him at a reasonable rate, he’d probably go for a little more than as a pure rental

I think his next contract really depends on what he wants. I imagine hell want a 2 year minimum, most likely 3, deal. He can come back and do that here if he feels the desire to play for one team his entire career, or he can go elsewhere and chase the cup that will guarantee his place in the HOF (it should be guaranteed already, but i digress). My guess is the latter, but that's just a guess with no factual evidence to support it.2

He hasnt given any indication whatsoever on what he wants to do, in either direction. I think he waits til summer, understands what the Flyers plans are, and makes a decision from there. That said, going on a nice run and coming up just short with a team this year may feel like unfinished business to him and he re-signs there.

2 2nds and a decent prospect. Atleast that’s what Eric Staal return 6 years ago
