I think you are focussing on the wrong part of this discussion and trying to pick a fight about it. I'll put it in plain language for you. It doesn't matter if it's one mid round pick or two mid round picks, the overall point remains the same - the team is going to get less than market value would typically dictate for a player like Giroux because of his not trade clause.

How is a conditional 4th nearly the same value as a 3rd? If 3 = "maybe 4", then the math isn't so simple, is it?

You misunderstand. He signed in Ottawa because he and his wife are from here, and their families live here. That’s why he came to a bad team. Family.

Your sample size is one. You think that ONE specific trade dictates what is going to happen this year, at this deadline.

The value between a 3rd and a 4th is pretty minimal. The funny part is that you are so emotional about what mid-round pick or picks Giroux is going to get. If he gets a 3rd instead of a 4th, it changes nothing, because the value is so minimal. If it means that much to you fine, I'll change my prediction from a 4th to a 3rd. It doesn't really matter.

If he does decide to waive his NMC and leave his family for a few months, it’d be to try for a long playoff run and cup, so why exactly would he pick the Leafs when he could just go back to Florida?

There is an airport that is right downtown that you walk out a mile and a half from the arena.

If he wants to chase a cup and can play C, Toronto would be the best spot (Ottawa and Montreal are no where near competitive)

If Ottawa is willing to retain 50% and take back a roster player for salary I think he'd be great in NJ. Scoring depth, C/W flex, can take faceoffs, good on special teams.

Something like Conditional 2nd + Nate Bastian for Giroux + 5th or whatever? The condition being NJ wins a playoff round and Giroux plays 70% or whatever of their playoff games = NJ sends WIN's 2nd 2025, if conditions aren't met then it's NJ's 3rd 2025.

I'd rather it be a 2nd and the condition is it becomes a first in 2026 if Devils make the SCF.
