I imagine his goal would be to play more than one playoff round.

But it’s also been reported that he’s a hyper competitive guy who doesn’t like the idea of jumping ship to his team’s rivals. So when Philly was shopping him, he said no to New York and Boston.

If he asks to be moved I bet it’s back Florida or nothing.

Ottawa would get a 3rd back, like they did with Tarasenko.
They got 2 3rd's for Tarasenko

If Ottawa want to trade him right now
Colorado will be the right place.
With Colton - Wood - Landeskog and Drouin all injured at least for month Colorado got a place for him and Colorado need help to make the Playoffs

I see him as a great fit in Toronto. He's got history with the coach and they have been looking for playoff leaders.

I think you are focussing on the wrong part of this discussion and trying to pick a fight about it. I'll put it in plain language for you. It doesn't matter if it's one mid round pick or two mid round picks, the overall point remains the same - the team is going to get less than market value would typically dictate for a player like Giroux because of his not trade clause.

How is a conditional 4th nearly the same value as a 3rd? If 3 = "maybe 4", then the math isn't so simple, is it?
Turns out it was 2 thirds

I respect that, but that just tells you he doesn't see the cup as the ultimate goal.

his goal is to play more then 1 playoff round.

And to achieve This goal he signed in Ottawa where they have not played a playoff round since 2017 and don't look like they will this year either.

You misunderstand. He signed in Ottawa because he and his wife are from here, and their families live here. That’s why he came to a bad team. Family.

But should he decide to make himself a 2 month rental, winning rounds will become the priority. And that doesn’t bode well for the Leafs.

No, the way you are talking to people is picking a fight. See your last sentence for evidence on that.

Your sample size is one. You think that ONE specific trade dictates what is going to happen this year, at this deadline.

The value between a 3rd and a 4th is pretty minimal. The funny part is that you are so emotional about what mid-round pick or picks Giroux is going to get. If he gets a 3rd instead of a 4th, it changes nothing, because the value is so minimal. If it means that much to you fine, I'll change my prediction from a 4th to a 3rd. It doesn't really matter.

Maybe my "tone" has switched because of the things you are saying... don't you think? Anyone can easily go back to the beginning of the conversation, I was perfectly rational.

It all begins when you throw "it seems like an odd argument to start" in post #35. So you are questioning the validity of my argument, which was perfectly reasonable since I am saying that 3 + 3 is comfortably superior to 4.

In my next post I demonstrate that your argument is the "odd" one but then for some reason, you go on and say :

- that I am "trying to pick a fight about it"
- "I'll put it in plain language for you" (like if was too dumb to understand your posts?)
- "then the math isn't so simple, is it?" (despite your maths not making any sense)

Some people really need to wake the f*** up and remove the beam in their eyes before looking at the mote in other people's eyes.

His and his wife’s entire family live here and he wanted to raise his kids near them. That’s why he signed.

If he does decide to waive his NMC and leave his family for a few months, it’d be to try for a long playoff run and cup, so why exactly would he pick the Leafs when he could just go back to Florida?

If he signed with Toronto he could be 4 hrs (a 1 hr flight) from Toronto.

There is an airport that is right downtown that you walk out a mile and a half from the arena.

If he wants to chase a cup and can play C, Toronto would be the best spot (Ottawa and Montreal are no where near competitive)

He plays wing in Ottawa, takes a lot of face offs, as he’s really good at it. Then takes wing responsibility.

Don’t see the leafs as a fit if he moves.
One playoff series win in 20 years, he’d be looking for somewhere with a better chance, if he decides to go as a rental.

Wing isn’t useful. If he is tired of losing and it’s a longer term thing Toronto might make sense.

Ottawa isn’t going anywhere. At least Toronto makes the playoffs consistently. I think they have the longest/tied for longest streak now?

could be , but also the least amount of series wins in 20 years.
Never won 3 rounds ever, so Leafs are probably not an option for him.
if he leaves , it will be to a better team, that has shown promise in the past.

The one time he waived , he went to Florida.

If he wants to chase the cup, he’d probably prefer to join playoff studs Barkov, Tkachuk and Bobrovsky than playoff duds Matthews, Marner and Nylander.

It’s a short flight from Ottawa to Florida too.

Yes. And if he wants to keep getting traded every offseason, sure.

If he wants to play for a dumpster fire and be out of the playoffs by December every year he can stay.

If he wants to have his family in Ottawa and play on a competitive team Toronto would be his only option to be anywhere near them (international flights change things).

None of us know what he wants

No it’s not? Have you done it? I have.
International airports it’s a full day.

Toronto to Ottawa is like getting on a bus. Ton can show up 30 min before with a health card and jump on a plane. It is in no way comparable

Yeah but the conversation isn’t really about Toronto vs Ottawa, it’s Toronto vs other potential trade destinations.

There is hardly any time to go “home”, after TDL in schedule, so that’s not really an issue. If lucky, could get 1 or 2 nights, no matter where you live, otherwise your missing team practices and meetings.

It’s moot point, anyway
He’s likely only looking at teams, that have done it recently, or got close.

Full NMC and close to home. He controls his fate. If he doesn't want to leave his family for 3 months (if traded near the deadline), it ain't happening.

No it’s about trade destinations. He wants to keep his family in Ottawa. He went back home to be home and close to completing (remember the summer of Pierre?)

Ottawa won’t be competitive. If he wants to

Family can come to you from Toronto to Ottawa quite easily. Any Saturday night game in Toronto is easy to get to.

You have no idea how he perceives Toronto, every year there are players who waive and ask to be traded to Toronto, regardless of your views on the team. Rightly or wrongly.

he thought Ottawa would compete so maybe he isn’t the best judge.

"weeks old", again your math is failing you!

lol I don't give a crap dude, which is why it took me 8 days to answer, but I stumbled on it again and wanted to put you back at your place. Stop picking up fights then call out others for it. Stay quiet.

Is that plain language for you?

I'd trade for him and stick him with Jack and Bratt. Being able to be a faceoff winger is a nice little +.

He'll choose if he wants to get traded and his destination tho.

he'd be a good fit for vancouver right handed centerman which they lack.. and need. could help PP2. still has the softest hands in close as well.

If Ottawa is willing to retain 50% and take back a roster player for salary I think he'd be great in NJ. Scoring depth, C/W flex, can take faceoffs, good on special teams.

Something like Conditional 2nd + Nate Bastian for Giroux + 5th or whatever? The condition being NJ wins a playoff round and Giroux plays 70% or whatever of their playoff games = NJ sends WIN's 2nd 2025, if conditions aren't met then it's NJ's 3rd 2025.
I'd rather it be a 2nd and the condition is it becomes a first in 2026 if Devils make the SCF.
