Ottawa is the perfect situation for him. He's a father with young children and it is / close to home. It's a team on the rise with a lot of young talent and they hopefully should be able to break into the playoffs during his current contract, and it's easy to see him re-signing there on the cheap until he decides to hang them up, which may be quite a while yet based on his game and how damn well he's aged.

I pray for anyone that chooses to sign in Ottawa
I’m sure he took less money to sign in Ottawa (there was probably offers north of $7M but he had his eyes set on one team). It’s bigger than hockey for him. He has young kids and his family is around the area. He has a home in Kanata - 5 minute drive to the arena.

He’ll be 37 when the deal is up. If he’s not ready to retire, it’s one year deals in Ottawa every offseason until retirement.

Giroux entered the top 100 all-time scorers last night, tying Kessel with 981.

Extremely durable player who hasn't slowed down yet (partially because he was never fast). Realistic shot at 1200 points/top ~50 all time depending on how long he wants to go.

Ignorant indeed. He is happy to come home in essence, from northern Ontario played some of his minor league hockey here and then over the river in Gatineau of junior. So ya I am sure he is very happy.

This is why Reddit hockey is much better than hfboards. Idiots whose entire purpose is to antagonize / get negative attention are few and far between there. On hfboards there are a ton of these childlike desperados.

Take a player away a bad team and put him on a better offense driven. It's not shocking to see that player succeed. Philly was next to last in the league for the 2021-2022 season when it came to offense production. They're near the bottom of the league this year as well.

But he's always been a good player. So good for him.

I always hated Giroux…. Because he wasn’t on my favorite team. Great player and always seemed like he must be a pest to play against.

I also just love when players get a change of scenery and you see them flourish. Good for him.

I pray for anyone that chooses to sign in Ottawa
Cool story bro.

We were robbed of so much more due to the Flyers' utter incompetence at building a team around him. He dragged around trash with him and put up with hack coaches for most of his career, and he did it without ever taking a night off.
Came here to say this.

Most of the difference has been on the PP where simply put in Philly things were horrible for him.

I had a perfect view of his backhand pass to Tkachuk last night, but the play he made that impressed me the most (and I've been impressed by G countless times over the years) was when he busted his ass on a dump-in to get body position and take a hit from Seider, and in doing so allowed the puck to continue on to Tkachuk. Dude got absolutely pasted and knew it was going to happen but didn't hesitate.

Giroux was a great signing and everyone could see that. Shame the rest of the summer of Dorion ended up going haywire.
