This guy was horrible since he joined our team and started to play a bit before deadline on his contract year.
Would probably have given him the 4th line center but since habs signed Evans for no reasons. I don't think this team can have both of them in the bottom 6 center next year

Yeah part of me is definitely concerned about the contract year push, Evans has pulled a DD since getting the $. If Hughes has something more concrete at play happy to go a different route but we can’t pencil Dach, Newhook, Beck or Kapanen into the 3C (or even 4C to be honest)

Re-signing this guy after a good second half in a contract year would be a mistake IMO.
I realise he's been part of a very effective line, but the Habs have to keep some renewal happening in the bottom 6.

In an ideal world where the Habs acquire a good 2C, it would be great to condense the current veteran bottom six into one line, and build a more offensive 3rd line.

ADDIT: I was thinking Armia would be reasonable to sign as a 13th forward on a one year deal, but come to think of it maybe it would be better to do that with Dvorak?

I have a theory that Dvo was a sleeper agent for the tank years and as soon as the team got competitive his work was done.

What we see now is Dvo unleashed from his shackles!

We only have two working lines and Dvo is at the center of one of them. If we don't re-sign Dvo, then we run the risk of having only one functioning line. I agree we have to churn out youngsters through the bottom 6, but we should do that once we have our top two lines established, or again, we run the risk of having only one functioning line. There are two years left to Andy and Gally's contracts, so keeping Dvo with them should give us another functioning line, giving us two years to sort out the Demidov and Evans lines. Once we've established at least another stable line, then we can start to dismantle the Dvo line. Or else we might regress next year.

The contract year surge is indeed concerning, but having him on a one or two year deal might curtail a return to underperformance. But is it really a contract year surge or has he finally found a niche where he's very useful?

I see it both ways but he did have a pretty decent reputation before he was acquired by Montreal. He instantly joined a team in disarray that was hardcore tanking. I don't think he's part of the solution but he could be just a decent foot soldier until there's a better option available.

We haven't seen enough of Hughes in terms of team BUILDING to know how conservative he is with retaining players or churning through upgrades. Dvorak will give us some indications to that... the UFA market is barren.

Hughes is smarter than leaving out his coach to dry with only one established line.

It would be a huge gamble torwards regression if we don't re-sign Dvo and roll the dice on a 2C to fit with Demi and sorting out the bottom lines with guys like Dach or Newhook, replacing Dvo. We could easily end-up with 13-14-20 being the only stable line and we would probably miss the playoffs in that case.

He also had his career best P/GP in his first season with us and has not been healthy the following two seasons.

Dismissing Dvorak as an option for next year only makes sense if people have someone better in mind, or if they believe we are still at the stage where graduating mid-level prospects is more important than results on the ice.

You'll never win playoff series with both Dvorak and Evans in your centre line. It's one or the other IMO.

The guy decides to show up and look semi-interested for the first time in 4 years and now he should be re-signed at all costs. 4 more years at 3.5 for a bum who will mail it in before the ink is dry on that contract lmao, what a joke.
