Would love to trade him to a team like Boston, Pittburgh or Washington for a 2023 1st round pick. Target teams that could see regression in the next year if at all possible.

I get its a stretch, but I punt a 1RD pick as far down the road as needed to get a lottery pick at elite talent. Maybe we get lucky and Geener retains on Tierney.

Tierney has the same career Points/GP as Pageau despite lower TOI. If Pageau can return a 1st + 2nd + Cond. 3rd, then Tierney can at least return a late 1st or early 2nd.

If you were an NHL GM, would you trade Pageau straight up for Tierney? Serious question.

Y'all really want Logan Shaw anchoring our 3C spot for rest of the year? (And Agozzino 4C until White come back).

We are so thin at centre, I don’t think we can afford to move Tierney right now. Hopefully he has a good year and there’s a market for him around the trade deadline.

This isn’t a good comparison despite their similarity in career points. Pageau was trending upwards when he got traded (24 goals in a season!) and is known as an elite checker. Tierney have nowhere near the value after 2 declining seasons.. I can see maybe a late 2nd if he puts up a 45 pts pace this season and a playoff team is severely in need of a center, that would be our best case scenario but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Couture was playing wing.
FO/GP
Hertl - 14.6
Tierney - 11.7
Pavelski - 11.1
Thornton - 9.4
Goodrow - 5.6
Couture - 4.2

Tierney was #1 on the PK and an afterthought on the PP. Based on his ice time, usage and face-offs; he was relied upon by SJ as their 3rd line center and played in defensive situations.

Why do we argue over 'top-6' or 'bottom-6' when 'middle-6' best describes a player?
What I don't understand is why Tierney's being used in a shutdown role or the PK by both organizations (SJ and Ottawa), where this is where you need players with some speed and jam along the boards. He has some good vision as a puck distributor and should be a better fit on the #2 PP where hustle or lack thereof doesn't matter as much. Reading Garrioch's article today he apparently asked to be put on the PP and it is now paying off with him going to the net and getting some garbage goals, which is the only kind of goals we're going to get until we find some players who have a good shot.

Tierney is also a pretty effective checking center. He just has a very different style from Pageau. Over the last 2 seasons, Tierney was averaging more SH minutes per game than Pageau, and Tierney even led the league in SHG 2 seasons ago!

I wouldn't call Tierney slow. Maybe last season he was a bit slower, but that was due to injury. I think he just has a weird skating stance that makes him look slow.

I also don't think you need some jam along the boards to be an effective PKer. You just need to be smart with your positioning and your stick, both of which Tierney is pretty good at.

But overall, I agree, he deserves some PP time too.

This is absolutely false lol. They arent remotely the same level of player. Pageau is very hard to play against, is simply a way better player in every single way. A much better goal scorer, and drives the other team crazy. A proven playoff warrior and better at faceoffs. Tierney barely instigates contact, they are actually opposites in how they play.

DJ literally said they are moving him to a more offensive role because they have better pk players on the team this year.

Tierney is fine as your 3 C/4th C but he certainly is not the same level or comparable player to Pageau.

Man tough crowd in here!

I like Tierney this year, and I’m really happy for the guy. All of a sudden it’s Tierney, Ennis, and Pinto that are making the PP look good lol.

I’m glad to hear that the lackluster play last year was due to back issues, which makes sense because they kind of fit with what some folks complained about in regards to Spezza at times, when we find out later it was his back.

Anyways, I like supporting our embattled players against much of the fan backlash, so I’ll continue to be happy for him and his recent play.

I also feel like he is being severely underrated all of a sudden for his PK work. He is excellent there and is also strangely dangerous offensively on the PK in an oh so Tierney-like sneaky style.

If this is the player he is, I’m in no rush to move him at all until a youngster forces him from the lineup, and at centre I don’t see that happening any time soon. We shouldn’t be looking to make more holes in the lineup. Even Grieg in the lineup doesn’t bump Tierney out unless we’re dead set on keeping White.

better ways to get Tierney props than to compare him to one of the most beloved Sens in the past 15 years

This is the kind of argument that some folks use to compare Brady to similar scoring forward.

Look only at point totals and then argue from there.

I love Spezza! I thought I was comparing their drop in engaging play, and subsequent fan backlash, when both were suffering from back pain.

Guess I could have been clearer.

Really wished Spezza would have come home to Ottawa to finish his career. I get him chasing a cup . . . just think he picked the wrong team to do so.

Man had a house in Toronto/GTA I think. No longer has ties to Ottawa unfortunately. His wifes from the GTA too right? I think he just wanted to get paid to be home with an off chance at the Cup

The Sens have a number of UFAs that could be worth something at the TDL, Holden, Tierny, Forsberg & maybe Sanford must all have some value for teams going into the playoffs that need to add size, D, goaltending or depth. If we add Brannstrom in a package with Tierny or one of those guys it should increase the return & hopefully improve a position of weakness. We have 6 picks in the first three rds of this upcoming daft & I suspect these UFAs might be able to add to that.

Tierney played just over 11 min of ice time against L.A. the third least of any player besides Watson and Shaw. He also only saw 3 shifts in the 1st period and had zero PK shifts all game.

If I had to make a bold prediction for next week, I would say that Smith makes Tierney a healthy scratch and Gaudette takes his spot. Any chance it happens or am I just grasping for straws here?
