If Neil is back in the lineup, that may Pageau will head back to Bingo?

Pageau is here for Smith, and Boro is still out.

In that Team1200 interview BM did it sounds like once Boro is ready Greening will be waived, if they can't trade him first.

That article from Lebrun makes alot more sense.

His gut reaction is no way am I moving, I love it here.

Then he thinks about it awhile and realizes he's not gonna win the Cup here.. and there are big time teams who are interested.

Doesn't mean he's moving, but that's the thought process I would expect from Neil, since he's so loyal.

It also makes sense than Brennan would pop off some **** story to try and get ahead of the truth.

Well with a broken finger now, Neil is likely out of the trade talks this trade deadline! :yo:

He'll heal up in 3 weeks and still be useful to someone. Like to see him moved. His shtick is old. 7-2 game and he needs to drop them - seems he does this every game these days.

You know what? We were down 3-0 to Pittsburgh, and he did his "shtick" and guess what? Right after that, we tied it up 4-4 before losing in the shootout!

He brings a dimension to the team that no other player does. he will be missed.

He dropped them when it was 3-1. And he was challenged by Gadzic and answered.

Bad post is bad post.

I personally find it hilarious how antsy Neil and Phillips make people. So much so, I almost want to see both extended just to see people's heads explode.

It makes me smile how agitated they get, relishing in their discomfort, laughing at their mewlings, and thoroughly enjoying their pointless frustrations.

:handclap: if or when Neil is no longer a Senator & this team starts to get pushed around it will be interesting to see what people say, then again they could all be like JM & just want to ignore it & turn the other cheek. :shakehead

Were we being pushed around in the 16 games he missed earlier this year? Not that I saw.

I like Neil in a minimal role; unlike many guys, he can change momentum with a fight or big hit playing only 10 mins a night, but we won't suddenly start getting pushed around because he's not there, particularly with Borowiecki in the lineup, who while maybe not as good of a fighter, adds every bit of toughness that Neil currently does.

He's doesn't stop anyone from being pushed around. Ovechkin was still hitting karlsson when Neil was dressed. D men still hit Turris when Neil is dressed. No one is going to stop playing their game because a 4th liner is or isn't dressed. That idea is quickly becoming a myth

Do you think teams start retreating in fear when Neil hops over the boards now? I'm sure opposing lines would rather play against the Neil line than the Turris or zibanejad line.

Neil will fight whenever. He tries to fight when it only helps the team but sometimes you have to answer the bell

IDK if its fair to say that. Neil isnt still the guy he was 5-10 years ago but he was a player who others hated to play against and he certainly draws the attention of other teams players when they should concentrate on more important things. I like guys that can play hockey on my team but i like guys that can play hockey and fill neil's role more. Like many different types of players neil was a weapon that added a different element to the team and despite whether you think his role as much influence on winning games i think its helpful to have a player like neil.

Its not a bad post, its an opinion. I know the ones outside the box are not appreciated in here, but I'll state mine anyway.

Neil is easily replaced by Borowiecki, maybe Gryba when he is allowed to hit again.

Neil causes a ruckus and heads to the box, putting our momentum on the defensive - over and over and over. You want to point to an opportunity that seemed to work, fine. But I think we were coming back well before Neil's theatrics.

Neil does not keep up with the play any longer and is often out of position causing an advantage for the opposition.

I as well like to read the lovefest some have invested in Neil and Phillips - they can do no wrong. But I do not feel the need to disparage them for their opinion.

Given where we are, they are preventing future players like Prince and Pageau from getting a fair shot. Phillips is a No7 on this team if he is even here next year. Neil a No13 at best. Both should be traded out of here imo.

No, it was a bad post because it was factually WRONG. You said he started things up when it was 7-2. He did not. Being wrong generally invalidates an opinion because it shows a clear bias.

You said that Neil cannot keep up with the play and is often out of position. Can you factually prove that? In the era of fancy stats, that should be an easy one. But Micklebot and others have shown that we are not at some distinct disadvantage when he is on the ice and that is simply confirmation bias by the masses here that think that if we dressed twenty-three 20 year olds, we'd win the Cup every year.

I believe I indicated it was a 7-2 game, not that he made his "statement" when it was 7-2. Point is we were not in that game and Neil (again) takes any momentum we are building and puts us on the defensive, changing the mindset.

As to specifics, I do not follow the fancy stats, as you call them. I attend the games and watch. Time and time again he is not where he should be when his assignment (player) is in our zone. Neil is slow to skate and slow to react. If you haven't seen that you've missed it.

My passion to see the younger guys play is related to the idea that we are not even close to making the Playoffs this year. It is a good time to actually play some of the deserving ones (Pageau, Prince by example) so we see what we have in the cupboard. It helps to know how good they are in order to project where they will grade out. Whether we keep them and continue to develop them or whether we include them in a trade package. If they never get a chance to play, how does management really know if they can.

Michelbot is great, I agree. His presence resonates well. Strong opinions, well written, Respectful and polite.

I expect better from mod ChoclateLeclair. And you can make your point without yelling. I was not yelling as you. Its an opinion. Do you yell at everyone who has a different opinion from you? I think not.

The bolded part is just wrong, basically a full on lie. It could be because you had trouble following the situation as it played out, or it could be because you watch the games with an eye for supporting your opinions.

Be passionate about the young guys playing by all means, and even have irrational reasons for it to boot, if you will, but you don't have to lie, or be disingenuous, to make your point.

Neil is a lot of things, and does a lot of things that could be validly used as an argument, but the fight situations that you interpreted, which has brought on the ire of other posters, is a serious blow to whatever else you post on the subject.

As for the condescending mod stuff, and the backhanded insult, may I suggest that you clean up your own backyard before venturing out.

I can appreciate some of that Thanks. I do not see it as wrong and another time, if a Neil fight happens, I'll post about it and we can discuss. I do not believe I was condescending, but if that is the interpretation, my apology. I do object to the term lie. A lie is a predicated act, and I do not do that.

Though we may see Neil fights differently...

Lie was too strong a word, and a mischaracterization.

My apologies :)
