Bednar has 1 WCF appearance in his entire tenure with the Avs and somehow only Ray Bennett ass gets fired. As bad as the PP was the PK wasnt better. Why is PRatt still employed? Why is Bednar still employed? With the all in mentality CMac placed on this team one would think its WCF finals at minimum or your gone type things but nope. Ho hum. You tried your best. As far as im concerned CMac and Joe also need to go. Full regime change.

How many non-WCF appearances do you put on Bednar?

2021 and 2025 are the obvious ones for me. 2022 absolved the first offense.

2018-2019 were still the tail end of the rebuild, Bednar got a lot of juice out of those teams. 2020 was no one's fault, they damn near took down Dallas with no EJ, Landy, and Hutchinson in net.

2023 team had no chance with Compher and Eller down the middle, adding in a Nichushkin police incident for good measure. 2024 was a good team, but IMO, not Cup caliber (George in net) and much worse on paper than Dallas - even before Nichushkin suspension 2.0.

Bednar could've been fired this off-season and it would've been justified. But he deserves a mulligan more than MacFarland does. The 2023 team flat out had no chance to win. The 2024 team was a crappier version of the 2025 team, with many holes that were haphazardly plugged at the deadline.

I don't think they were cup contenders, but to say they couldn't beat the f***ing Kraken? Embarrassing

The Avs roster was soooo bad. Nieto was on the 2nd line at one point in the series. This was the Game 7 line-up:

Lehkonen-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Rodrigues-Eller-Compher
Nieto-Newhook-O'Connor
Hunt-Meyers-Malgin

Toews-Makar
Girard-Byram
JJ-EJ

They could have beaten Seattle. And CMac deserves an F for putting that roster together to defend the cup lmao

I feel like ownership has restricted them in terms of when to "go for it" and when to hold back. They clearly didn't go for it in 2018, which is understandable, nor did they in 2019. Not going for it in 2020 and 2021 still irritates me a bit but I suppose they knew they didn't have the goaltending, which they didn't. But to go into a title defense year and decide to just kinda do 2C-by-committee again, that will always just piss me off.

Ownership definitely hampers them, in that they simply don't tolerate buyouts unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, and it's pretty clear they get chintzy in other ways (taking forever to renovate the locker room, a substandard practice facility, etc.). They've always maintained they're willing to spend, but they want it to count.

Damn I love you CMAC. Don't get me wrong brother, I do wish your missus would say something to you about that haircut, but FMD, you're a wizard at this cap manipulation and roster management !

Covid yr, 21 and 25. I also just dont think Bednar is this great coach. I think hes a good coach the same way I think Peter Laviolette is/was a good coach just not a great one.

Still a 3, while I'm optimistic about Nelson and supportive of the move, look where that shit got me with Mitts lol.

If he gets Gavrikov out of UFA, or even Provorov maybe I'll consider moving him back to a 4.

I feel like we should probably have one of these threads for Bednar too lol.

I pretty much already said why, but I push back on blaming him during the Covid Year/Bubble. Just my opinion, of course.

I thought they had a good chance to win the Cup, and are a sleeper pick for the best Avalanche team no one talks about that much. But the injuries were obnoxious. This was the Game 7 line-up:

Burakovsky-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Namestikov-Kadri-Nichushkin
Jost-Compher-Nieto
Dries-Bellemare-O'Connor

Graves - Makar
Girard - Zadorov
Cole - Connauton

Hutchinson
Bibeau

Injured:
Calvert, Donskoi, Francouz, Grubauer, Johnson, Landeskog, Timmins

I blame Ryan Graves more than Bednar for that Game 7

I will never not smile at your exuberance.

I'm an old f***ing fossil. Feels good to see folks passionate, even if for lost causes.

Best thing CMac could've done would have been to partner with a local firestation for St. Baldricks and just made the change to bald-headedness that infects 80% of NHL mangement.
