Player Discussion Chris Kreider

If the plan is to retool or rebuild, fine. But given the indications that NYR want to compete, all I have to say is: good luck finding a player like Kreider who can score at his rate, with his speed, at that price. People are letting one bad, injury plagued season change their minds about a remarkably consistent player who also happens to be one of the most clutch playoff scorers in franchise history, maybe league history.

Again, not a bad deal to get off that money and bring back a valuable prospect. I just don't see how this team will be competitive next year unless several young players and prospects make big jumps, and we nail free agency.

I have this weird feeling that by February, we're all going to be watching Lafreniere and Perreault struggle, Panarin coasting, Igor being wildly inconsistent, complaining that Sullivan is the worst coach in the league who "doesn't play the right lineups or give the young guys a chance" aka the league-wide fanbase criticism of literally every coach, and paying Sam Bennett $9 million for a 40 pt season.

Of all the trades that we should be making, this was the easiest one to make. No surprise it's the first we're getting wind of.

He'll rightfully go down as one of the Rangers greats, but it's time to move on right now. Hopefully he has rave reviews of Anaheim for Panarin and Zibanejad.

Chris Kreider: A very good NHLer who gets overrated round here due to the stunning lack of home grown elite forwards this org has ever produced. You take a player like him 10 times out of 10 for where he was selected, yet for the most part, and the vast majority of his career here, he was a "want something more," guy, if for no other reason than there wasn't enough talent around him and you needed him to be THE guy instead of "A" guy. He was alwas more of a 20-20 or 25-25 guy when you wanted a 30-30 guy every year. While the thirty goals eventually came, the assists never did.

I think the talk of hanging his jersey is a little nutty but he's also, again, like the best homegrown forward this org produced in forever, which is sad.

I find myself unable to emotionally attach because at the end of the day he represents the "close but no cigar," iterations of this team from the Hank era onward, during much of which time it was clear the team was making personnel mistakes in how it surrounded the mainstays like Hank and Kreider. It was a great era for the Rangers since they last won a Cup but also incredibility frustrating to see the self inflicted wounds that should have been avoidable. Kreider also SHOULD have been liquidated earlier when his stock was higher instead of clinging to the false hope that the aging, not-good-enough core could somehow defy the odds and win a Cup.

Thank you for your service, sir. You were a very good Ranger who blemished his record with your attitude and performance last season, but you are still one of the best to come through here (as sad as that is). He'll be back with the org someday too, you can bet.

Trading Kreider is the necessary move. I trashed throughout the entire season, but didn't know the extent of his injuries. In hindsight, he was simply broken down. Kreider is the needle in the haystack when it comes to long-tenured Rangers draft picks. Most of them suck and don't last long, but Kreider did. I was driving across country, and made a pitstop in Des Moines, Iowa to watch the Rangers play Washington in the playoffs. Kreider scored that nasty fast break goal. He was the first forward prospect this fan base could truly be excited about 10 years.

I don't know why the Rangers didn't give him time off to recuperate this year, given his level of play was a detriment to the team and his trade value. I will never understand why the Rangers don't use LTIR like the Tampas, Edmontons, Vegas' of the league. Oh well, time to move on and pass the buck to the next generation. Laf deserves PP1 time and he should finally get it next season.

Love Kreider, but did not love his 24-25. If we didn't need the space for Cuylle and possibly KAM, I might be advocating for seeing if he can rebound. Even last year, top flight PKer.
I understand being hurt, but if you are so hurt that you can't even give the APPEARANCE of making an effort, you should be sitting. That's on the coaches AND Kreider. He's not some young kid player, he's a vet who is supposed to know how to put the team first.
Also the locker room chemistry has been "problematic" and while I hate to think part of that has been Kreider.... there's a lot of smoke.
I will NOT be celebrating his departure, IF it happens, but I certainly (would) understand it.

Good player who had a bad season during what was a bad year for most everyone. I think he'll rebound somewhat and have a nice season for Anaheim, if that's where he lands.

If it's a culture change they're looking for I get it, as he's probably the easiest to move.

Not gonna lie this one hurts .I speak in GIF mostly and he gave me one of the ATG gifs ...............

I can understand people saying he should not have played through the back, hip, vertigo and hand issues for sure but I do have to take those in to account when looking at his play/effort last season. When I have back problems or vertigo I stay in bed. I can not imagine trying to play a NHL game with them. I do agree he should not have tried to play in the 4 nations.

The plan is never to rebuild. Even when they sent the letter out, they would go and sign Panarin to his mega contract the next summer. They traded for Trouba over the summer of 2019. They lucked out and had Adam Fox land in their lap and suddenly the rebuild was over before it began. Drury will try to make a few big changes and look to end any retool/rebuild by the end of the summer.

I hope this makes his highlight montage when he returns. CK was a great Ranger and for what it’s worth no one gave as much effort as he did stringing words together to provide a somewhat philosophical response to a simple question

Last year at least to some degree was a case of worse case scenarios bunching up on us and turning the season to shit and it started pretty early on.

I'm not a great believer in worse case scenarios as something that becomes a mean at least if you make some corrections. I don't think for instance that if the Rangers go to a more zone oriented defense and upgrade our D that that is going to be the problem it was last year. We take charge of our own zone and I think Igor will start resembling the goalie he was 2/3 years ago and that should mean a better team and more wins. So some of this will definitely be on Sullivan's head to install a defensive system that plays to a strength we have over most other teams in goal.

A more North South oriented offense I think will help us too. I think the Rangers have good depth at forward......the problem might be more how our top 6 plays than our bottom 6. But if the D goes back to being good even an average offense will probably be enough to get us into the playoffs.

You guys will never f***ing believe which one is Chris Kreider.
Kinda helps when u have played 40 more games than anybody else.

U know who isnt #1 in goals per game for the playoffs with the rangers. Chris kreider.

out of the top 5 goal scorers in nyr postseason history, he ranks 5 in gpg

Still really good. But not the best ranger ever from that metric.

Machinehead's is a point well taken----between the last 3 playoffs the Rangers were in the Rangers went to the conference finals twice and Kreider scores 24 goals in 43 playoff games in those 3 playoffs. Prorate that over an 82 game regular season and that's like a 45 goal pace which is f***ing outstanding particularly in that playoff games are not regular season games......there are no easy games against any playoff team.....no really weak teams to pad your stats. For someone with a $6.5 mil cap hit that's getting terrific value.

I very much respect Chris's contributions to the Rangers particularly after the covid lockdown. That said we are in a situation where we need his cap space and especially if we can't get it from his buddy Mika. For one I wouldn't want to lose Cuylle over Kreider because to me Cuylle represents real future for the Rangers and a 33/34 Kreider might still have a few good years left but it's more a ? now with the injuries from last year + I don't think he did himself any favors with all the shit that went down in the locker room last year. The players play.....they should not decide the organization's strategies for moving forward. There seems to have been some dissonance on this and the ramifications for that not only had effect on the players and the organization but also the fans who deserved a lot better than we got last year. . Players come and go and very very few ever play their entire career with a team.

With Cuylle nearly 11 years younger, it’s a no brainer
