Not defending him, because he has been extremely inconsistent so far this season. He clearly doesnt have the same adrenalin coursing through his veins like he did during last years playoffs, and hes still developing. For a guy whose projected to be a top 6 guy, with a lot of raw talent playing him on the fourth line with guys like Halpern and Mashinter who are 100% bottom six players is doing Kreider ABSOLUTELY no good, then benching him after taking a stupid penalty, and a lazy one doesnt help his confidence one bit.

I know torts has his dog house, and for a guy thats a 4th liner its understandable to bench them after taking stupid penalty because they ideally shouldnt play more then 10 minutes or so, but for a guy thats still developing like Kreider it does no good.

If hes going to have such a short leash send him down, and let him play the game. You can only beat a guy down so much until he just checks out. He needs to be sent down to develop, guys like dubi, anisimov, callahan all played full seasons in the AHL and it did them worlds of good, developing Kreider by playing him for 10 minutes with grinders is going to do nothing but stunt his growth.

Let him get a season under his belt to develop. He should be a stud once he develops!

Before the **** tards show up to derail this thread with their personal agendas....

21 year old first year professional.

my only gripe is he would have ALOT more good games in the AHL, and have the time to develop his game and not have to worry about making one mistake and then having to wait until next game to play again.

the way i see it hes not developing right now, hes just playing and keeping his head above water, hed be more sucessful and develop faster if he was playing top line minutes in ct.

The thing to remember is that the AHL rarely plays games on weeknights. Sure, he only got a few minutes tonight, but he would have bupkus down in Hartford cuz they don't play until Friday. He's played in 46 combined AHL/NHL games this season. Hartford has played 55 games. Didn't Gernander scratch him at least once in Hartford for indifferent play?

He is playing inconsistent. As you would expect from a rookie power forward. He should be playing games but he continues to be benched/scratched. If Torts doesn't want to play him, w/e, then just send him down to the A and let him play 20 minutes a night. I'm not blaming Torts for Kreider's inconsistency (although him looking timid has to do with the microscopic leash Torts has on him). BUT DO NOT ****ING CONTINUE TO CALL HIM UP AFTER AN INJURY, BENCH HIM, AND THEN COMPLAIN THAT HE IS NOT READY. Leave him in Hartford you grey bearded deuche.

Every game, stuff pops up that he should be getting more minutes despite the mistakes. Yet, with limited minutes, the mistakes continue to come.

So, why are we giving Kreider more minutes when he cant handle the few hes getting?

He could have a lot more good games in the NHL as well, if Tortorella wouldn't bench him all the time and let him go out on the next shift and correct his mistakes.

He's not allowed the opportunity to correct anything.

He has to be 100% perfect every shift, every play.

Meanwhile, beaver face can **** off as much as he wants and Gaborik can vanish for months at a time...while stealing 14 million dollars combined.

**** Tortorella sometimes. Really.

If I've got this straight, "young players" are immune from being held accountable for their mistakes, simply because they're young.

If the accountability were consistent I would get it. 1 goal against and done for the game.

You can tell he's looking over his shoulder and not making confident decisions.

Really thought the org was past this. Send him down already. It's absurd.

No. But they need to be mentored and guided along the proper path. Not treated like they're worthless after taking a penalty here or making a sloppy play there. That is how you destroy a player's confidence and seriously stunt their development.

How many turnovers did Miller have tonight? On average?

I'm not saying Kreider has looked better than Miller (he hasn't) but the accountability stops and ends with Kreider.

As someone in the GDT said it's as if the Rangers are using the Islanders' playbook on prospect development.

Exactly.

Where is Richards and Gaborik?

What about Miller's mistakes? He's not benched.

Why the double standard.

I agree with that. I really think he needs to go to the AHL, get him away from this mess of a team.

There seems to be a lack of patience with him that wasn't there with other younger players.

Del Zotto, Stepan, Hagelin, McD etc... were all allowed to work through their mistakes without constantly being benched after a mistake.

This coach doesn't like this player. It's obvious.

throwing guys like kotalik, lisin, or frolov in the doghouse was alright because those guys were seasoned players, they werent developing and should know better. Kreiders a developing rookie if hes gona be in the dog house you might as well send him down because if u want him to just watch the team play from the bench torts can just send him the game tape and he can watch in during his time off in ct.

and as people have said torts seams to not like him, and has not patience for him, sather should step in and send his top prospect down to the ahl to play some games, and call up a guy like haley or ferriero

Based on what we've seen thus far it's very hard to disagree with this.

Like I said...double standard.

And it would be justifiable if the effort wasn't there, but it is.

Can anyone who followed the Lightning more closely, confirm this is how Tortorella treated Lecavalier?

Del Zotto got sent down for a long period of time, which is where Kreider would be if the team weren't missing Nash and Asham.

I'd guess Torts doesn't like the way Kreider has been playing and I don't blame him. For a guy who is so fast and so strong, I rarely if ever see him beat anybody with his speed or strength. He looks scared out there. I don't care if the coach goes hard on him, he needs to man up and play the game the best he can. People are making a ton of excuses for this guy because they love to hate the coach.
