Maybe he doesn't give a shit? Maybe he doesn't care what little johnny thinks of him in the stands and whether or not he thinks he was loyal to the Rangers for signing a contract? Maybe he wants to go make that extra 7M and still sign for a team that is much closer to the cup than the Rangers?

Disloyal for wanting to maximize his value and to set his entire family up for more than one generation??? He's earned that with the work and effort he's put in over the years.

I mean I'd love to see how much the folks calling out CK for being greedy are putting into their savings account and I'll determine whether it is appropriate or not and whether you are a greedy mofo who neglects the poor and needy of society in favor of your self and your family

Whether he signs with the Rangers or Ottawa, he's still set his family up for many generations. He could never sign another contract and still be sent for much longer than any of use will be on this planet.

These athletes like Kreider owe the organization nothing. They will move on from him without skipping a beat if they have to. I totally support an athlete, like Kreider, doing what's best for themselves and their family.

When was Lundqvist "loyal"? He got paid big money because he was the top goalie for a long time. He didn't take less, and he didn't stay in NY after they decided to rebuild out of any "loyalty" he did it because he likes NYC and playing there not out of loyalty to the team. I'm not saying he's disloyal either, just that nothing that Lundqvist has done is exactly out of loyalty to the team. Lundqvist got paid very well to do what he does and he's now nearing the end of his career and like what usually happens his time is passing and younger players are stepping into his spot

You are also as far away from being a professional athlete as possible and, unless you have seen active duty, have NEVER subjected your body to such injury risk. Who are you to judge what is and isn't real to those that do?

You are also NOT in the mass entertainment industry, which requires ridiculous training and much time away from home and family. Who are you to judge what is and isn't real to those that do?

I just think you're looking at it through the prism of a fan, entirely. Lets figure Kreider is leaving ~$10-15M on the table by not taking another team's potential UFA offer (I'm assuming some team will give him 7 years and the Rangers are trying to work on something that's 5-6. That's about 20% of his total contract. Why would he do that? Because he has enough money? Yes, naive. I won't even get into how Chris Kreider is not as loyal of a fan of the NY Rangers as the people on this board.
 
Does Kreider play right up until the deadline? I feel like he should sit at this point until the dust has settled one way or the other.

#1 I never said 10-15m, but nice try with the dramatics to prove a point. #2 the whole conversation was, if over the course of his career he made 60m, instead of say 65/67m would that be the end of the world? #3 how is Chris Kreider not a loyal fan of the NY Rangers? Please, share?

The short career length, injury risk, and time away from family are well compensated; I believe that's his point. As, aside from just the salary (which is not a small omission), a professional athlete has inroads to sponsorships and industry related positions (see the plethora of alumni 'employed' by the Rangers in some capacity atm), they have access to world-class medical professionals and treatments, and they don't even fly commercial...

Just think about the leaps it takes to try to invalidate MH's point that Kreider is a multi-millionaire, set to further his multi-million dollar earnings no matter what deal he takes. And to be clear, I've worked two years as a commercial fisherman (the second most dangerous job in the States), so I'm apparently very qualified to speak on our sister-career, professional athlete...

1. Whether is $7M or $10-15M, the real point is that's a lot of money for a finite professional athlete's career, and you won't find many that will leave that on the table just because you think he can make due without it.

2. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but he'd be stupid to not maximize his value because....

3. At the end of the day, the NYR are Kreider's employer. This fantasy that he'll leave millions on the table for the pleasure of playing with his beloved NYR is just that, a fantasy.

Winning a cup in NYC is worth more than 7 mil, it will carry him for the rest of his life, that 7 mil will just be f*ck y** money.

Also, please tell me exactly how you have arrived at your timetable of when the Cup returns to NY?

Nothing I love more than when the righteous droves appear to tell the unenlightened masses of what the right and wrong amount is and, even more importantly, decide that they are in the position to tell people what to do with their living.

Edge has let us know that they are "far apart." Odds are that that means Kreider is not looking to take a (large) discount.

Panarin just left millions on the table to play for the Rangers. Literally less than a year ago.

Shattenkirk, MaxPac, JVR all signed less than max deals to play where they wanted to play. Let's not make like it doesn't happen. If he wants to maximize his value, he won't be playing here. We've said this over and over and over again. But going by what people have said here, he likes it here and doesn't really want to play anywhere else. If that's the case he's going to have to leave some money on the table. And he'll still live a much better life with his 60m and change then any of us can ever dream of. If not, good luck Chris.
