The Rangers had traded away a single 1st that had been used by another team at the time G was signed. Them not having an ELC replacement isn't on them for trading away picks.

They had his replacement on the roster at the time he was signed. Picking G over Stralman (who wanted to stay and would have been signed for less) may have cost this team a cup in 2015, at the very least it cost them another trip to the finals.

LHD stop gaps who are better than Staal could have been signed too, assuming the Rangers still decide not to re-up Yandle after trading for him. 2 years into his extension, hes the 4th best LHD on the roster.

Frustrating when you consider that those 2 decisions are what separates this team from being 1st round fodder from a core that wins multiple championships.

On topic: Kreider is awesome.

OT again

Imagine if Girardi and Staal were allowed play out their respective contracts and the Rangers got deals for them they got for Yandle. Even if Yandle is let go, you'd have the following:

McDonagh/Stralman
Skjei/Klein
Holden/Clendening

You'd have a lot more cap space.

Also, fully agreed about CK.

Which of Kreider, Miller, or Stepan will be the first Sather-drafted forward to break 60 points in a season? They're all projecting to be in the ranger of 59-66 points at the moment. Let's hope all 3 reach that mark.

Kreider and Zooks are really starting to feed off each others board work. I think that line has another gear to go if Zib gets hot.

Zib was really good yesterday, it just didn't go in for him.

I see no reason to break up any of the lines right now, but I really want to see KZB reunited if things go stale.

I really hope Kreider hits 30 goals. I want him to hit it so badly. Been a while since the Rangers have had two 30 goal scorers, could be him and Grabner this year though. Kreider just needs to keep scoring.

He has a good chance, even if he regresses a little in the last quarter. Would be nice to see a pair of 30 goal scorers.

I'd also like to see Miller hit 20.

I remember Sam mentioning Kreider was one of three or four American-born players for the Rangers to have three seasons of at least 20 goals (if I remember right).

This would be Miller's second.

would be pretty surprising if Miller doesn't get 20 considering he has 18 goals now.

Imagine if he did not miss that time because of injury.

Looks like the perception that some had that he had already peaked as a player last year was somewhat inaccurate.

You never know.

He could go inverted-Pirri and have 26 assists and 1 goal.

In any case, Kreider has been ridiculously good. He's playing his game again, getting in front of the net, and doing all the little things. He's kicked it up a notch. BAM!

I believe jas and i were the 2 most vocal supporters of c.k. I'm the off-season.
Not debating that. I just remember being amazed that so many people were ready to write him off at such a young age by claiming that he already peaked.

At his age and experience I think it was valid to wonder if he had another level he could get to...couple of full years in the NHL plus a fair number of games before that and in his mid 20's. Usually guys don't take a big step forward at that point in their careers.

Kreider always seemed like he had a mental component he was just on the verge of figuring out though so I had some hope he could do that. So far he seems to have worked tha tout

My favorite was HawkeyTawk guy saying Kreider would never be better than a third liner because he didn't have the proper pedigree of being a dominant star in college or juniors, and since he hadn't scored 30 goals by age 23, that also meant he had peaked.

That might be true of the average player, but when you have someone with Kreider's size and skill set, it can take longer for them to develop. Ton of examples of guys being late bloomers. But lazy thinking is common on the forums, where people let averages and probabilities do all the thinking for them.

I always supported Chris Kreider. A lot of people used the argument he had no toolbox and all the tools yada yada yada. I see some that are now kissing his ass but absolutely dissed him for years saying we can't afford to wait for Power Forwards to develop and this guy is an idiot and some wanted to trade him for a million other players as recently as October.

Kreider is an example of why you need to exercise patience with young players with great skills. Progression isn't usually linear...lots of peaks and valleys for most. Same for Miller.

It's what happens on here. Before last season people were starting to give up on Miller. He stepped up last season and now he has taken it to another level this season.
