Recalled/Assigned: Chris Driedger

I was in Sweden over the holidays and I ran into Johan Lundskog, the Swedish/Canadian assistant coach of Oskarshamn, a second tier Swedish team. They’d just had Hogberg on loan from his SHL team and apparently he looked fantastic. Granted, it was only a couple of games, but Lundskog said he saw a lot of Lehner in his game and that the potential is definitely there. He’s .914 on the year in the SHL.

Tip: you shouldn't open your statement up to scrutiny like that given the last few weeks.

Backing up Hammond on Wednesday might be the closest that Driedger gets to the big show.

Wow, didn't realize how young this guy was. Way too early to right him off, even if he's struggled making the transition to pro hockey. He's only 20.

Staple this kid's butt to the bench. Only play him under the most extreme conditions (ie: Hammond decides mid game he'd rather be an architect and just bails, Hammond has his arms torn off by dire wolves during an intermission pee break, etc...), and in those cases, make sure there's a contingency plan in place to bring in anther goalie quickly in the event that Hammond somehow can't play games (read: architect & dire wolf scenarios, respectively).

Nothing against Driedger, but this kid is NOT ready for NHL shooters right now. Nothing wrong with admitting he has a lot of development to do between now and when he should be getting his honest 1st chance at NHL minutes.

Agreed. The guy doesn't even have a .900 save percentage in the ECHL. He probably won't even get this close to the big league again until several more years in the minors.

he is the contingency plan

Ya a big reason why Bingo won't make the playoffs. They have good scoring but can't keep the puck out of the net...

Bingo's GA was 8th worst in the league last year. Only one team had a worse GA and made the playoffs. Thats with different goalies. The problem is more then goaltending it also has do to with the defense and how Richardson coaches. Last year's bingo team was one of the most talented in years and it still was bad defensively.

Huh, and this is the guy everyone wanted us to bring in instead of Cameron?

Ya know, there have been quite a few coyotes spotted around Kanata lately......

I think I checked a couple of months ago, and Driedger was the youngest goalie both in AHL and in ECHL. He has time.

So Anderson is back?

I wonder if they put him back in against Minnesota or run with Hammond

EDIT: nevermind, makes sense to give Hammond at least one last go and to give Anderson the second game of a b2b

We should keep Anderson on the bench until Hammond loses a game
