If you look at Scuderi vs. Regehr in the playoffs, i'd definitely choose Scuderi. I am okay with the Kings resigning Regehr, but I think Matt Greene fills that role nicely and is younger. Regehr has been average in the playoffs when you look at his numbers.

I have no idea if Mitchell will be back next year, but I seriously hope we don't lose Scuderi. I know he's older..but the dude is a machine. This is what I'd like to see next year:

Doughty/Scuderi
Voynov/Mitchell
Greene/Muzzin

If Mitchell comes back for another year (presumably his last), then you can have one of the kids step into Mitchell's role like Ellerby or Forbort or another UFA or through a trade.

Scuderi was a ROCK last night on D for the Kings. Other than Carter and Williams he was the best King last night.

Scuderi. But, I'd like to see what Sutter can do with Regehr in a full season. But, Scuderi has always been a rock when it mattered.

BMR,

That looks really good but I'm afraid it will look more like this. Also I really feel Scuds is an East Coast kind of guy. I am thinking Boston.

Doughty/Regehr
Voynov/Muzzin
Martinez/Greene

Both, but I think Scuds is gonna have one of those meetings with a Brinks truck. Toronto could desperately use a guy like him.

Scuds is the reason why the penguins won the cup

Scuds is one of the many reasons why we won the cup

The guy is proven and is one of the best DFD in the game.

That is not going to get it done IMHO. I think if this same team has Mitchell instead of Regehr, we are way better. The only thing Regehr has over Mitchell is that he can be more physical. Other than that he is slower, can't pass as well and doesn't have the same quality shot.

Guys like Scuderi go under the radar quite a bit. He's going to be 35 this year, but I'm not sure how many teams will offer 4 mill+. I think at that level i'd pass. If he likes it here, he should be willing to accept 3. At that point, i'd rather trade Regehr if we get Mitchell back. Mitchell almost has the best of both worlds - he's a shutdown defender but also has offensive upside and a great guy in the locker room.

Having Doughty/Voynov is a great cornerstone for the defense. Maybe we can work out a trade with Bernier/Martinez/.... for a chance at Seth Jones.

Not sure those 2 would get us into the top 10 much less the top spot. And that would be a waste. Would be better off trying to get Drouin. He's a LW just the spot we are weakest at. But I could see those two+ maybe getting us to number 2. Just not sure what the + would need to be.

I don't think he's the sole reason, but you can't ignore what he brings to a team. This year the Penguins have one of the most dynamic offenses you will ever see on a team, but it might not be enough. Defense wins championships.

It's kinda funny to me how some people don't really see it. All the best teams in this league have won cups with a strong blueline presence.. Look at Lidstrom on Detroit, Stevens with New Jersey or Niedermayer/Pronger when they were with the Ducks. Sure you gotta have offensive finishers as well (St. Louis), but offense only teams usually get beat in the playoffs. I think Boston has a great chance to win this year with the way they are clicking right now.

Mitchell is not coming back... as much as we'd love that he would.

Have you seen Drouin play? We definitely need to get stronger on LW. Weren't they talking about turning Toffoli into a LW? I thought Brown was better on LW also?

I think we need to cut Penner loose this year. He is going to be pretty worthless in the regular season and he doesn't have the numbers in the playoffs to justify his salary. Any other Bickell's lying around somewhere? lol...

It's still too early to say that. I think there's a decent chance he tries to make one more year out of it. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the doctors cleared him but there was still a problem. Mind boggling.

Scuds/Voynov is our best D pair this postseason, so... yeah.

And that got me thinking, is Voynov making Scuderi look better or are they both good? I think they are both good. Scuderi was a +9 in last year's playoffs and Voynov was a +1. Mitchell was a +7. This year, Doughty and Regehr are both -4. Doughty really screwed up on that play last night that led to that Bickell goal...and he took Regehr out as well!

Briefly in the Memorial Cup. Have not had as much time to watch hockey this year as I would like. And he looks like a natural goal scorer from what I saw.
We can hope TT can make the move to LW. But so far anytime he has played there is has not been good. The big question is do we try to move Carter back to center and have Richards play LW? That would allow for TT to play the right. And with a training camp that could work. But with as well as Carter played on RW this year with Richards centering is is smart to chance that?
Brown likes playing his off wing.

I think we are pretty well set on offense. I think we really need to focus on that last big-game defenseman for the playoffs.

If Mitchell does somehow come back its pretty safe to say Scuderi would be the one going since he's the only one not on contract

I doubt they would know this before Scuderi resigns, however. Tough decision for the Kings. If they let Scuderi go *and* Mitchell doesn't come back, I don't like it at all.

On paper maybe. But the guys aren't finding the back of the net. And not just in the playoffs. The goal scoring woes started back in the regular season. I can remember when we were in the top 5-6 in almost every team stat. And we finished 10th in G/G. And the 2.0 G/G in the playoffs is just more than anemic.
If Penner were to come back and got into better shape, say down to 230 over the summer. And could play top 6 minutes and play like he has in the playoffs. We would be ok on LW. But that is way to many if's and I don't think it will happen. Not to mention the salary he would need to come back at.
I would like to think we can get TT on the left but there is no way of knowing if he can make the change and do it well. And early indications are that it might not work. And that is a big problem. He needs top 6 to produce the way he is capable.
