It's pretty impressive since at least in Finland, if girls play with boys usually they're 2 years overage for the age group, so her just getting drafted in her age group is quite impressive. And her numbers seem in line for a defenseman so it doesn't even seem like she only got drafted because the team wanted to make the news.

Second on her team among D for scoring. One of the few to play all 30 games. Burnaby was a decent squad finishing third in the regular season.

Nice to see, but honestly, as a defensemen she will need to be an incredibly evasive skater and have elite awareness to not get absolutely rocked in her first game in the WHL. It's just too physical and too aggressive for any + - 5'9 140 lb frame assuming she fills out into something of that physique.

Offsetting the temptation to break the barrier and make history, her coach is going to have to seriously consider her safety before dropping her into the lineup.

Also, since it is unlikely that she plays before her 19 yo season, isn't it nearly a foregone conclusion that she opt for Div 1 college hockey rather than wait out the odd chance at a few WHL games?

The odds are long and I'm not really commenting on Primarano so much because I have no idea, but I'll say it is interesting to me because we have these same conversations about boys that age who are that size or smaller. I think Lane Hutson was smaller than that until this year.

Also if her family is like "if she goes out there and breaks a bone doing what she loves to do, then so be it", then I get that too.

But why?

Its really good that this has happened,
but why did they choose a girl over a boy?
It’s really not that hard to figure out. The Giants felt that she was a better option than the boys that were available after her. She’s a good hockey player, plain and simple.

She might never play a game for them, whether it’s because she goes NCAA or because she isn’t good enough. But the same goes for a ton of boys picked before and after her too. It’s the same as the NHL, being drafted doesn’t automatically mean you’ll make it. But Chloe’s one of the smartest players in this draft class, well worth the pick. I’m really excited for her and the Giants.

I donno how long she’d last. A full contact league with some guys in their 20s? Could be kinda rough for her.
She’s about the same height as Johnny Gaudreau. 4 inches taller than Nathan Gerbe. Physical disadvantages blah blah, she can put on some weight and hit the weight room and won’t have any problems. Men get crushed too, it happens and it’s fine. If she’s smarter and faster than the guys, who cares about her size.

Shes bigger than Debrincat, stop this veiled misogyny, it reeks. This is 2022.

Those boys aren't some primitive creatures

Yes, some are.
