CHL to NCAA Commits

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
One thing we are going to have to try and remember as CIS fans is that we can’t fault the player and that this is likely what’s best for hockey as a whole .
That has always been my philosophy. If a player can better themselves, then I'm all for it. Sad to see them go, but glad for them.

That’s what I questioned when I heard his name. I would assume if he was only on a ATO. He wouldn’t have been paid anything .
I agree. Probably an ATO.

Perhaps a bit extreme from me, but get ready for Jack Drover AUS hockey.

I would say get ready for OUA West hockey.
Everyone seems to think that the AUS and CW will be the ones feeling this the most but I have to imagine the guys going to mid range OUA teams are now going to end up on decent teams likely in other conferences.
That conference might be looking at that version of university hockey more than anyone. Maybe I’m wrong but I imagine all of the MHL guys I’ve seen head to Ontario are AUS guys going forward .
I can’t remember exactly what his ideal version of the AUS was (before my time) but I did stumble upon an article going through Telegraph Journal archives for something unrelated with him talking about his view on it so I have a rough idea .
The good teams will get guys who still would have been CIS hockey players at other schools/conferences … Its those mushy middle teams in the OUA etc that are going to all of a sudden have players who wouldn’t have been playing CIS pre 2025 , so I almost wonder if the quality goes down their more than anywhere . I have nothing to back this up beyond my shower thoughts and we probably won’t know until 5 years from now when a full player cycle happens .
I’m so torn because I love what the CIS is now but I’m also a hockey nerd so I’m pretty keen to watch this play out lol , hell I watch Jr.B and Midget AAA for fun , it’s not like the hockey will suddenly be below me .

D - Jeremy Langlois, who was one of the highest scoring overage defencemen last season but doesn’t appear to be playing anywhere this year, has committed to Maine.

G - Andrew Oke (Saginaw, OHL) to Lake Superior State

18 year old F - Evan Van Gorp (London, OHL) has committed to Maine for 2027-28...so after his overage year.

19 year old F - Joshua Zakreski (Portland, WHL) will forgo his overage year and join North Dakota for the 2025-26 season. This particular scenario is perhaps the one I am most intrigued by. If this starts to become the norm it will have a big impact on the CHL...however, you may then see more overagers once again head to USports as the NCAA teams will have recruited and brought in their guys before they even get to the overage stage.

So far there's been a handful of 19 yr olds. I would think they would be the top tier guys who go to top school like NoDak. Can't see him leaving for Mercyhurst or Sacred Heart.

On Oilers Now last night, Bob Stauffer said he expect 6 players to go from Canada West to Nebraska-Omaha, including 4 from Alberta and 1 from Saskatchewan.

In other words the person who told me they’d heard 20+ AUS players might not have been crazy .
Someone I’d generally trust but thought that seemed way to high .

I don't think there are 20 AUS guys who could go NCAA. But, I've been wrong in the past.

Coincidentally, this season NCAA Div I programs increase from 18 to 26 full scholarships. Perhaps there are not 20 guys who would be willing to go by previous NCAA standards, but adding 8 full rides to each of 50+ programs (Ivy League do not do Full Rides, plus Army & Air Force) opens up a lot of spots.

That’s what I thought , I kind of wondered if they misspoke and meant 20 CIS guys.
If that many were going I’d expect way more chatter around Fredericton with UNB being hit the hardest and I’ve still only heard the one name mentioned .

I was a bit tongue-in-cheek. But I'm thinking they would want guys with at least 3 years left.
