CHL to NCAA Commits

This is true. It's also true that NCAA Commitments are worth precisely the paper they are printed on. They are not contracts, and NCAA programs can (and often do) rescind their offer just as quickly as they gave it.

These verbal commitments often take the form of "if I play USports, I am coming to Laurier" which is what likely happened here. They were probably 50-50 propositions at best.
This is what made the CHL scholarships better than NCAA scholarships. The player owns his CHL scholarship and can take it anywhere. NCAA has no binding contracts. You could get a free ride one year and if the coach is fired and the new coach brings in new guys, maybe you get a 50% scholarship. Problem is that the 50% you pay could be thousands more than a year at a Canadian school.

I was wondering how many coaches get fired and found this: All-time Coaching Changes by Year

NCAA Hockey Coaches rarely get fired. They tend to stick around for decades, because it's a great job by hockey coaching standards ... you get paid well, you have very little travel, you choose your own roster, and there is zero roster turnover in-season so you can actually develop a team.

What happens more often is that a player underachieves and is not offered a scholarship the next season. Once a player and the team sign their scholarship agreement, it is only good for one season. That is not a well-known fact ... NCAA scholarships are year-to-year.

I agree, but 4 coaches were fired last season.

Is that Hockey Math?

64 / 4 = 16 / 1 ... apologies if the math confused you.

Think about it this way: The AUS has 7 teams. If precisely 1 coach is fired every year, then by definition it will take 7 years for all 7 teams to fire their coach once. That's how the math works.

Thanks for showing your work. I carried the 7. :skeptic:

I think it was mentioned already, but would USports consider dropping the red shirt requirement for pros entering the league after one year of pro experience? This could help compensate for the loss of players to the NCAA.

I did, but it was a solid rumor and not a fact.

There are lots of OA's out there. Maybe 40 or so have committed to NCAA.

I'm not sure how much recruiting takes place this time of year other than the odd ECHL guy who is tired of riding the bus and these guys have already been recruited in the spring.

As has been said many times, it will be a while until we see the full impact of this.

NCAA route hot new shiny opportunity for chl players but what most chl players or agent don’t tell these kids full ride is year to year. I expect a lot of guys will realize fast ncaa business vs usport model of education first. And players won’t see much ice time they expect. Which will result transfer back to Usports and i question ncaa clock/eligiblity rules from player standard which would result in chl players ending up at usports this coming September

I do expect 1 year pro allowed to be eligible without sitting 365 days.
