This thread is to discuss all of the CHL players that are foregoing their remaining CHL eligibility to play college next season.

Cayden Lindstrom is heading to Michigan State University

Sounds like Gavin McKenna is going to Michigan.

What other names are going NCAA next year?

Josh Zakreski (2005, WHL, Portland Winterhawks) is expected to forego his overage season and be at North Dakota this fall.

Eric Jamieson (2005, WHL, Everett Silvertips, Calgary 2024 6th) is expected to forego his overage season and be at Denver this fall

Word is jack ivankovic and malcolm spence are michigan bound. Michigan also after a bunch more high end guys. I think they'll take two more forwards in addition to spence and mckenna.
Yep, Ivankovic to Mich is big around the rinks.

Martone being heavily recruited by BC/BU/Mich also
Was Mews announced yet?
You’re right, Mews was announced.

Matthew Knies developed okay in his two years at Minnesota
Yep, obviously there are a number of schools that could take Martone to the next level, I just have been so impressed with W Mich's ability to develop power forwards that I think it would be a match made in heaven.

Unfortunately the new arena will be ready a few years too late.

Will probably go somewhere that can give him a bit of NIL.
Also true, curious if one day we will see a prospect enter an adverse development situation in search of excessive NIL. Not saying that is the case here, but it's bound to happen eventually. An interesting calculation to make. Guaranteed money now or ideal development situation that may represent much more money later.

Reid Andresen (2005, Wenatchee, WHL) and Carson Birnie (2005, Calgary, WHL) are both expected to forego their overage seasons and play at Michigan Tech in the fall. Rylan Gould (2005, Swift Current, WHL) originally stated he would play his overage season before heading to school but our staff is working on getting him in this year.

I’m not at liberty to give names, but we’re also in on several more 2005 born defenseman with the expectation that they would skip their overage years and play this fall.

Where are the reports or rumors' on Ivankovic & Spence? Ivankovic would be the unanimous starter at Michigan as Korpi transferred out.

He will step right in as undisputed starter at UM.
Are you sure? He had a save percentage just above .900 (.903) in the OHL. That does not scream sure starter as an 18 year old freshman in college hockey.

It would likely be negligent towards building a competitive team for next season to not have someone who can compete with him for the starting spot. He may not a 900's goaltender in the NCAA next season, and that could ruin their chance to be competitive next season.

He won't commit somewhere that isn't planning to make him the starter. He'll have to lose the job to become the backup, not an open competition. Top NTDP/USHL level goaltenders can exert that kind of demand in their recruitment so not sure why you think he'd be any different. If you're a top 2 round pick, you're usually starting in NCAA the next year, just how it goes.

Not sure how much OHL you watch, but .903 is actually very good. Especially for a 17 year old. Not a lot of defense being played there these days. League wide SV% is typically around .890.

Shock to no NCAA fan that knows it's the best option before the NHL.
Not so sure.

the top end guys sure, they need a better level, some of the 19 year olds are going to regret it when they’re on the 4th line.

Some of these teams will make promises they can’t keep and some guys will get lost in the shuffle or buried. Super teams aren’t what they’re cracked up to be.

From there, some guys need to play, others need to be in the gym. A guy like McKenna sure needs a higher level, but to go from 70 games to 40 and then to 80 ? Not sure that part makes sense. For the guys foregoing their OA seasons yeah I think that’s fine.

Some guys will derail their careers on these super teams because they’ll get stuck in a situation where they go from being line to line 3 or the bench. The very top end shouldn’t worry but some guys are going to learn a harsh lesson.

Short term sure the CHL will take a hit, but I’m not sure this will be a yearly exodus because there will be horror stories and anyone around the college game in any sport would know that they’ll promise you whatever but delivering is a different story.

It happens everywhere, CHL included. Just don’t think this is going to work out for everyone.
