CHL overagers with no NCAA commitment

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

A lot of noise in the NCAA market right now with a lot of teams done and the Playoffs starting and Euro Free Agency will pick up soon too (Tralmaks to DET so far)

Only Borya Valis has signed an ELC out as an undrafted '04 of the CHL so far, and this market has largely been wiped out or written off because of NCAA commitments, but are there notables that haven't committed anywhere yet?

Sam Alfano and Spencer Sova seem like two notables out of the OHL. Both players have been to several different NHL Dev Camps and even main camps since going undrafted too, so they'd conceivably be on NHL radars - either for an ELC or definitely an AHL deal at least.

Any others?

For the OHL I believe these are the better OA's that aren't either NHL property and don't have a NCAA commitment as of yet:

Landon Sim

Blake Smith

Luca D’Amato

Luke Torrence

Sort of got my own answer using EP too

Q doesn't seem to have much; but I think all of Alfano, Hookey, Sim, Jelsma, Sova etc would get AHL deals at least if they didn't commit somewhere and some other could be on the AHL/ECHL fence.

Wiesblatt, Edwards, and Mayo in the WHL would probably get similar interest.

Have to think at least one of these guys is leaning towards Pro at this stage.

There are some decent WHL Euro overagers like Rymon and Ekstrom but those guys are surely heading back to try their luck in Europe.

Wiesblatt is the obvious best WHLer who hasn't committed, but I'm not sure how scholastically inclined that family is. His brothers didn't play CIS hockey after their junior careers, either.

Nolan Flamand in Brandon doesn't appear to have committed anywhere, either. Neither has Hunter Mayo, although Mayo is probably one of the better bets to get an NHL contract.

Just a couple holdouts, guys that will probably sign AHL deals because they don't want to play school. The bar for NCAA is not particularly high as low end schools typically filled their ranks with NAHL, Canadian Junior A and a few miscellaneous other American junior leagues outside the USA Hockey umbrella "historically" with only 1 graduating NTDP age group and 15 USHL "proper" teams out there. So you'd expect anyone to land a OA spot on a CHL team (which is itself competitive as there are more graduating 19 year old CHL players without NHL contracts than there are available OA spots) to be able to secure a D1 offer somewhere moving forward.

Hear Maine is hot for Landon Sim.

No mention of Wakely? He wasn't as dominant this year as last but still a very good player. Maybe he's waiting for that offer sheet from Edmonton?
