CHL can now play NCAA - change everything !

People i know with high end 2008-2010 kids are really looking at chl over ushl mainly because style of play and ushl doesnt play younger kids that much

Also a lot of CHL teams have better facilities and have more to offer to players, and like you said CHL is a younger league where you can do better as a 16 year old. You have to be truly elite to do well in the USHL as a 16/17 year old.

Most of the families and agents I speak with have their sights set for CHL in either 16 or 17 year.

The top end 16 year olds are still going to go NTDP. OHL only allowes 4 per roster. How many 16 year olds who weren’t good enough for NTDP are realistically going to be good enough to make the move at 16? Not many

And even a lot of OHL teams don't play 4 16 year olds at a time. Its very dependent on how good a team is. Contenders will play their 1st round pick and probably one other guy. All others will be affiliated while they play down a level. Mid tier teams might play 2 or 3 guys and only their top 16 yr old gets great ice time. Bad teams will play all 4 and with decent time because they need to.

Ones who got an invite to final camp in March, and possibly an invite to team. That's why you see those type of kids tender with a USHL team. I agree it is a small percentage but there is always a few of them.

I agree there may be a couple. It will be interesting to see what the NTDP camp looks like. You will have a good inclination just based on the camp roster where these kids heads are at for next year. Given the resources and facilities available to NTDP players, I have a tough time seeing any of the top dogs pass on it, they are way better than what any CHL team has to offer.

Every year from the final 40 camp most kids who don't make it go back to play 16u midgets, a few get tendered in the USHL and a very small percentage go CHL.

Since CHL is an option now, you would have to imagine kids who think that they should be on PP1 but aren't offered it at NTDP will chose to go CHL. Some possible reasons are to fast track College entrance or just to help their draft status.

Just look at the top 09 D and you can easily pick 4-5 who can run a PP for the NTDP. Not sure any of those kids settle for PP2 or even worse no PP time at all. I mean just take Gutierrez vs Semetsis as an example. I'd take Semetsis to qb my pp. You think Gutierrez will be ok being #2? There are also other defensemen who have the ability and might take their chances with the CHL instead of settling to be a role player for NTDP.

Now I am not denying what you say about NTDP having incredible resources, but with "advisor" influence being incredibly strong and many of them liking the CHL you have to imagine it will happen. The only thing that had parents say no in the past is because they wanted college for their kids.

CHL is a step above the USHL as far as facilities and amenities go. It is also a younger league and if you were a NTDP candidate you will definitely play in the CHL your first year.

Looking ahead I am hearing a LOT of kids are interested to go CHL after their 16u year is over. We are in uncharted territory. Next two years will be very interesting and if the USHL does not have plans to improve who knows what will happen.

I agree with a lot of what you said. But keep in mind power play responsibilities aren't something that is handed out at tryout camp. None of that stuff is handled until the season starts

All the families I know whose kids went to ntdp were given clarity on what roles they will most likely play. There will be competition for pp1 spot for sure, but some kids might be told upfront something else.

Regardless, I agree that kids in competition for top spots will definitely go but the next tier I can see looking to greener pastures.
