Maybe it's just me but kids that young shouldn't be training that way. At those ages you're supposed to have fun, and I guess he's having fun, it almost seems like a pro training.

Someone plays a high level sport especially one in which they progress from regional-provincial-national, usually they are always intense practices and getting yelled at by coaches. The fun and games should be in houseleague/concompetitive level, its like this in soccer and many sports.

Somewhere in Quebec.
For those of you who like to know prospects from very far down the road, here is my current top-5 for best 2003 players out of Québec:

1. Charles-Alexis Legault (D)
Mature beyond his years, Legault is a tall, mobile defenseman that thinks the game at a very high level. Skating is top-notch, very mobile in all directions and great use of first couple of steps. He's dynamic on the rush, and doesn't hesitate to pinch in. He has a solid shot from the point, but can also set-up plays with good passing instincts. His positioning is a bit off at times on defense, but he more than makes up for it with his quick feet, active stick, physical play and anticipation. To me, this player is the best bet to be in Midget AAA next season as an underager.

2. Zachary L'Heureux (C)
Hard-working center with great top-speed and high offensive skills. L'Heureux is very tenacious in all three zones and extremely physical despite not being that big (about 5'5). He's always finishing his checks and even likes to be active after the whistle. Offensively, he's very dangerous, especially off the rush where his hands and speed shine. He attacks defenders one-on-one and is often able to catch them off balance and make move towards the net. He is able to create time and space easily both for himself and for his linemates. He has high hockey sense and great understanding of the game, and I can definitely see his skillset translating very well to the next levels.

3. Dovar Tinling (W)
This kid has pure offensive skills in my opinion. He has high marks in shooting, passing, stickhandling and skating. His skating is very smooth and he reaches top gear very quickly, even with the puck on his stick. His stickhandling is impressive which allows him to rush the puck up the ice with ease and protect it against oncoming defensemen. The thing I like the most about him is his shooting skills; a very quick release on his wrist shot, very accurate and already a lot of power behind it at just 13 years of age. I feel like this kid is going to score a lot of goals in the future. At times, he can be lost in the defensive end, and he needs to improve his intensity on the ice, which leads me to queston whether or not he will be in Midget AAA next season. It could be good for him to stay with his peers and dominate.

4. Joshua Roy (W)
A very smart offensive player with decent wheels and quick mits. I really like Roy's playmaking abilities and feel thats his best biggest strength. He likes having the puck on his stick and is always making passes across the offensive zone that makes you go 'wow'. He doesn't hesitate to go in the dirty areas and his hands allow him to win a lot of puck battles despite not being the biggest/strongest guy out there. He has a very dynamic first couple of steps which allow him to seperate himself from defensemen in tight areas. He is excellent on the breakout and can carry the puck with ease through the neutral zone.

5. James Malatesta (W)
It's hard not to rank this kid in the top-5 with the amount of power he has already in his 5'6 frame. This kid has a very hard and accurate wrist shot which he isnt afraid to use. He is a very physical player that battles hard in the corners and parks his body in front of the net to screen the goalie or to fish for loose pucks. He's involved in all three zones and in fact does great penalty killing work for his team. He has a good skating style and very nice top speed. He puts himself in scoring positions always and is very intense on the forecheck. He works hard in deep and forces a lot of turnovers each game.

You can view individual game reports on those players and more at www.hockeyprospect.com

Charlie will likely play in Bantam next year.

Zach is considered the best bantam in Quebec, he has been invited to tryout for the midget AAA Grenadiers, he's apparently 5'7 now, decent size, has growing to do. Haven't heard anything bad about him.

Dovar hasn't been great this year, no the easiest of seasons, seems to be finding his grove. Agree his offence is top notch, defence is meh, seems to struggle when playing against older age groups.

Josh Roy is having a great year, he's a big kid too.

There's another Roy, Tristan who's big, strong, fast, hits, scores, great hands, will likely play a Midget next year.

Malatesta has an absolute rockets pro shot at 13 if you ask me, I don't like his aim to be great at all, needs work, his fast and strong, would be a mistake to surclass him.

I am not familiar with players that young, but from 2004 there are players who score 5 times what he is scoring.
Take this post exactly as it is. I'm not saying that he's a bust (12 years old lol) or just a youtube celebrity. I'm just stating the sheer, hard, and cold numbers.

There are two superstars at this age in Russia: Ivan Miroshnichenko and Matvey Michkov. They play mostly for an older 2003 y.b. generation. Both of them are on that "new malkinovechkin" level at the moment, just like Yakupov, Grigorenko or Svechnikov jr. were.
You may compare Dolbilkin's stats http://r-hockey.ru/player.asp?TXT=76052&Language=e
to Miroshnichenko's

This kid (I think from Murom) has been making videos with his father for the last 5 years. He's growing up.

Its hard to imagine that Wayne Gretzky (his father shot film of him as well) had better hands or was a better skater than this kid at his age. What strikes me is that someone is giving him great coaching to help him develop those skills. I think he is about 13 now, so it shouldn't be too long before he is a U18 candidate.

I have mentioned him a few times in the Danish prospects thread (in the Northern Europe forum) and I believe he deserves to be mentioned here also.
He has just turned 13 (September 13) and will be eligible for the 2021 NHL draft.

A smooth skater, technically excellent and a prolific goal scorer. He is dominating Danish junior hockey like few before him, actually I can only remember Frans Nielsen and Mikkel Boedker being this dominant, when they were at his age.

Some of his achievements as a U13 player (international tournaments) 2015-2016:
2-4 Jan. 2015
He participated in Lilla Resport 15 in Värmland, Sweden. It is Europe's largest tournament for players born 2003 with 32 participating teams from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany and Denmark. Among around 500 hockey players he ended up as no. 3 on the high-scorer list with 17 goals and 6 assists in 8 games. He was elected to the all-star team and was elected tournament MVP.

Video from a game, he is wearing no. 87:

5-6 Sep. 2015 (as a 2 year underager)
Bålstacupen (U15 tournament) (SWE), Rødovre wins the bronze medals with a 2-1 victory against Göta Traneberg. The Rødovre goals are both scored by Marcus. On a very strong Rødovre team with some of the best U15 players in Denmark, Marcus becomes top scorer.

The video is from one of the games, he is wearing no. 87:

11-13 Sep. 2015 (as a 1 year underager)
Elite Hotels Cup (U14 tournament) (SWE), Rødovre wins the gold medals with a 6-1 victory against Växjö Lakers. Marcus makes 4 goals and 1 assist in the final. In the tournament he scores half of his teams 38 goals (19 goals and 4 assists).

Video:

Skåne U15 league (SWE) (2 year underager)
Rødovre has been allowed to participate in Skånes J18, U15, U14 and U13 leagues. Skåne is one of 7 districts in the Swedish Southern hockey region.
14 GP, 16 G, 7 A, 23 P
No. 4 on the topscorer list for points
No. 1 on the topscorer list for goals

Some of his achievements as a U13 player (Denmark) 2015-2016:

U15 PULJETURNERING A (as a 2 year underager)
A tournament for the 6 best Danish U15 teams played in August and November 2015. 10 games in total for each team.
10 GP, 13 G, 6 A, 19 P
He was no. 3 on both points and goals high scorer list.

Eastern Denmark U15 league (as a 2 year underager)
The Eastern Denmark league for U15 players (regular season league with 30 games for each team).
24 GP, 60 G, 21 A, 81 P
He was no. 1 on both points and goals high scorer list.

His eliteprospects page is finally up.

Very decent numbers as a 13year old in a u17 league.

24:40... what the hell?

Maybe it's just me but kids that young shouldn't be training that way. At those ages you're supposed to have fun, and I guess he's having fun, it almost seems like a pro training.

This reminds me of a recent NYT article about stud baseball prospects who literally have a hard time playing catch or catching a pop fly.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/01/...mers-but-playing-catch-thats-tricky.html?_r=0

It's not just about having fun at a young age (which should be part of the picture, just in terms of raising a healthy human being). It's also the fact that hockey is more than just a set of isolated skills. It's a game that, by its chaotic nature, requires a certain amount of creativity and improvisation.

I really do feel that youth development is MUCH too focused on developing "scout friendly" skill sets, at the expense of being able to actually play the game properly. For an awful lot of kids, there's a developmental ceiling where they're no longer going to be the most skilled player on the ice. When that happens, hockey sense is what separates the boys from the men. Look at a guy like Yakupov, I'm sure there was never a better player on the practice rink but he flat-out isn't effective at the game of hockey at the highest level.

Hm, interesting. Whats his draft year? 2022?

Had he been 3 days younger it would have been 2022, but his draft year is 2021.

He participated at the Danish U15 championship in March. It is a round robin tournament for the 6 best Danish teams. He is a U14 player and can participate again next year, but he is almost too good already. He became tournament top scorer (both goals and points) with 9 goals and 4 assists in 5 games. He had 3 GWG and 36 shots and was directly involved in 70% of his teams (Rødovre) 18 goals. Of course he was also elected tournament best forward.

What is the age limit for U18 WCH? For U20 he must be at least 15, but dont know this lower age group.

According to IIHF rules the same apply for U18:

904. Junior Age for World U18 Championships
Players participating in all IIHF World U18 Championships must be not over 18 years of age and must have had their 15th birthday at the latest on the day the respective championship starts. No under age waiver is permitted.

He must wait till he is 15 years old, but even if it was permitted, he would never be able to break the roster for the Danish U18 national team when 14 years of age. Only in rare cases do Danish U16 players participate on the U18 national team. Not even Nicolaj Ehlers (JET) managed to do that. Last time the Danish U18 national team had a U16 player on the roster was in 2009 where Nicklas Jensen (NYR) participated, and he had turned 16 at the time of participation.

Just like how a 16 year playing against one of the best men leagues as Dahlin is doing blows my mind, seeing a 13 year old playing in the U20 league is just crazy. And not only that, but he got two points in his one game as well.

Its very impressive, Valdemar seems very high on this kid, and I trust his opinions.
