You're going to start hearing the name Matthew Savoie alot more. I'd be surprised if there's a better 04. Looked head and shoulders above the competition at the World Selects

Here's the semi final against likely the top Russian team at the tournament. Savoie is 93 in red, with the white helmet.

I wouldn't deny that he's one of the bigger players on the ice, though, that's not what stands out to me when I watch him play. It's the skating, puck skills and IQ

Odd that I don't see Leevi Aaltonen getting a mention here. The kid's been highly touted in Finland for a couple of years now and he's only 15 years old today. If the big names fail to become scorers in NHL there's atleast someone to look forward to. Pretty nice numbers in jr league (+awards). Not sure why the years 13-14 and 14-15 are missing but:

Adam Jehlicka (11 years old) from the Czech Republic. Guy has already a official facebook page with over 180k likes. The only Czech hockey player who has more is Jagr. Ridiculous

There was also Jaromir Pytlik (2001) mentioned. Check for youtube videos.

Outscored by 14 of his age+1
Outscored by 4 of the same age.
Still has pretty impressive numbers for a 14 years old in a U16 league.

Of the ones the same age, Adam Raska also had 1g4a in 9 games in the U18 which is pretty impressive at 14. Tied 10th in scoring in a U16 league at 14.

http://liiga.fi/ottelut/2016-2017/harjoitusottelut/7766/seuranta/

Mikko Kokkonen(January 18, 2001, Eligible for 2019 Draft) played 6 minutes and 48 seconds for the Liiga team of Jukurit. He scored the assist to the game-winning goal and notably took 5 shots during such a short amount of ice time. For a defenseman this is pretty absurd as is but this is as a 15-year-old against adults.

At his limited ice time he is in the top third on his team in corsi% for 3 matches(2 of which were 30min matches)

To be fair it's pre-season matches, but the fact that he's been in 4 of them as a 15 years old is very impressive.

He played mainly U18 at 14, but played some U20 games.

Already 5'11 so he's a guy to watch for sure in the coming years.

Of note: Peter Reynolds is the lone underrage player on the Shattuck bantam roster, this season.

Dave Gagner knew about Cody Hodgsons and Steve Stamkos when they were both 11 years old.

Jason Spezza was known by alot of scouts when he was age 11.

Sidney Crosby was probably discovered way before the age of 13.

Alot of star players get discovered, doesn't mean, its "hes gonna be a super star"
but more like, "hes probably gonna end up playing in the NHL one day" type

If Crosby was just starting hockey now (internet prevalence, social media, etc.) he would have been known very early I think. I played in his minor hockey system until he got moved too far ahead of his age group. And at least when it comes to 'hockey families', or kids that played and parents that paid attention or watched games at all, every one knew who he was. Even when he was like 8-9 years old, he was THE name. Not just in the local region either, but when there was provincials or other tournaments with teams from other leagues across the province, and even Prince Edward Island, every one knew who he was. Surely with society how it is today, word would have spread all over the hockey community.

Moscow, Russia
I remember a tv special on Russian hockey a couple years back, and they feature a kid named Zhenya Kuznetsov who was tearing up his league at age 12.

I little bit late, but a funny fact. At the same time for the same Traktor School team another kid played. And the team's bosses decided that the kid was way too skinny and light to play hockey. So they sent him to a useless garbage team.

The kid wanted to leave hockey, but his grandfather found him another team, and the kid had to move far away to another city. And you know what, in a few years the kid turned into a pretty good player, because his name was Artemii Panarin.
