I also think KD knows that getting MR out of Colorado increases the odds he hits the open market.
If the number for Rantanen is 14 I highly doubt Carolina keeps him. They never go over market value regardless of who it isTo me it is the opposite of that. Rantanen now gets to anchor the top line with his fellow countrymen Aho. I would assume they're friends being similar ages, from the same country and all that, but I don't know that for a fact.
I also can't imagine Carolina makes this deal without at least putting in a very competitive contract offer extension on the table for him. They have more cap space than they'd ever need to extend him. Keep in mind they can offer 1 more year than anyone else and they have 20M+ in cap space when this season is over. They'll need to replace Burns and probably find a new backup goalie to Kochetkov, but they'll have more than enough money and cap space to offer Rantanen an extension.

Hall just at cap hit might be worth nothing.Hall alone likely gets a 3rd with zero retention already
Retaining 4.6 million on top of it for Raantanen makes the F warranted teams have gotten 3rds for being the retaining team in a 3 way trade already anyway.
Just unnecessary and early when it would have been beneficial to wait just like the stupid move from 20 to 18 last draft.
League sources are confused on why we took on Rantanen's salary when we probably could've gotten a 3rd just for Hall.
Unless Davidson is doing Colorado a favor tonight while these two flesh out a Jones trade, it's a bad move by us.
A contender's 3rd won't be as good as their own. They essentially paid $1.6mm to move up 20-25 spots.
What could Davidson possibly do to get more for Taylor Hall?Sorry for expecting a GM to actually be capable of understanding sport and improving his team
Our GM hasn't exactly done anything worth a damn to justify his position at this point
maybe throw Bedard in the dealWhat could Davidson possibly do to get more for Taylor Hall?
Shoot I didn't consider that. You're rightmaybe throw Bedard in the deal
I think we might have even got a 2nd rounder than.Shoot I didn't consider that. You're right
Totally agree. I am especially looking to see how Reichel does with more ice time on the higher lines. Plus likewise for Nazar and Dach who should never see the AHL again. Next step is to dump a vet at D so it frees up a spot for Korchinski.meh, Hall out to make room the for the ever auditioning youth that we have busy learning in our system is a big win IMO. Retaining is nothing more than a financial viability in our rebuild. this is a good trade for chicago.
On paper the deal sounds meh, but Hall isn't worth more than a 3rd and everyone not delusional knows this.
I could care less about Guttman but would not mind seeing Slaggert for a bit.I think the bigger issue I have is trading him without retaining on his deal making him basically a giveaway. Retained at the max of 50% and I bet he could have fetched a 3rd on his own, 4th at the worst.
Hopefully they call up Slaggert or even Guttman in his place.
I think everyone over the age of 12 already considered that. I mean how else did you think people thought they got the pick from the hawks if not from Davidson?Should be noted, the only reason Carolina had Chicago's 3rd round pick in the first place... was because of Kyle Davidson
He traded it away so he could draft that bum Jack Pridham instead of Kevin He
Another example of Kyle trying to undo his past mistakes
Didn't realize we got Pridham with that pick, what a great trade.Should be noted, the only reason Carolina had Chicago's 3rd round pick in the first place... was because of Kyle Davidson
