  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Byram is nothing like Griffin Reinhart, he is a talented player, skates with confidence, is a leader. Great player for Chicago's young core. He definitely has some consistency issues but I think he can be a #1 for them. Really wish we could've kept him but if he wanted 10 million a year, we couldn't afford that and this was a good way to recoup assets.
The big issue for me in acquiring byram he is a year away from ufa. Chicago just inherited buffalo’s problem in resigning him and handed buffalo a get out of jail free card

@Zman5778

I think I’m gonna count this one as a win. 😁

If the return came through as Crevier + 45th for Byram, I don't think I would have been as surprised as I am with the actual trade. You just really don't see top 5 picks moving and I am pretty shocked that Byram fetches one along with two other pretty solid pieces.

Though this definitely does likely have something to do with the weak FA market, teams who desperately want to improve are just short on options.

Davidson - I will give you the 4th overall?
Jarmo - Nah I need more
Davidson - And the 45th overall?
Jarno snickers away from the phone then says - Nope, more....
Davison - And Crevier?
Jarno - Let me think about it, you need to take Greenway off my hands too!
Davidson - Deal no take backs!

LMAO

This is my big problem with the deal but I have to think Chicago has reason to believe they can extend him if they were willing to pony up this much.

I offered the Avs 27 1st for Crevier + 3rd a few months back and Hawks fans said that was too little and Crevier is a big RHD they wont sell off early.

They dealt him + 4th OA + 45th OA for a dump + Byram

Byram needs 15+G & 65+ pts next year logging 23+ mins a game. He needs ti be as good as Charlie McAvoy at the minimum to justify this deal, but if hes making 12.5x7 then he needs to be closer to Miro Heiskinen level player

So, not a fan of this for Chicago. IF Greenway manages to motivate himself to play like he did at times in the POs against Montreal he won't be a cap dump.

Canucks legit could have moved Hornek for 4th overall.. god I hate this team.

I doubt it. Hronek might be similar or better in terms of what they’ve done recently, but to give up the 4OV, Chicago must see Byram as having untapped potential above what most think of him, and it’s unlikely they see the same in Hronek.
