The Checkers have kinda faded into the background as the Canes focus on the summer, but they're back in action tonight and leading the Marlies, 2-0 after the first period in Toronto.

Carrick and Jurco with the goals, Patrick Brown with two assists, Ned with nine saves.

Schematically speaking, this is an awful lot like watching the Canes. You see all the same tendencies in how they move the puck, especially when they get a cycle going.

IMO, everything Poturalski does is AHL above average, and NHL below average. He's the very definition of a Quad-A player.

That's our *AHL* defense for tonight's game. I legit believe if they were all UFAs this summer, five of them would get NHL deals (well, at least four, plus Carrick).

I'm not saying Poturalski would be anything special but he's got more finish than Wallmark for sure and seems to be just as well-rounded otherwise.

The same quad-A label was something I'm sure was put on Derek Ryan at some point, yet here he is with back to back 38 point seasons in the NHL. He's not nothing, anyway.
