For all you guys giving Skinner the benefit of the doubt for that 3rd goal... Just remember that the Oilers only gave up like 23 shots. Goalie needs to come up big at some point. Thankfully Oilers get out of this one with a win with subpar goaltending.
The D has been good all season. Limiting chances…the skaters defensively have done their part.

Terrible defending effort. Why is Ekholm on his knees watching the Islanders best player get the puck in high danger ice. Brutal team defending with a no stop goaltender behind it. Bad combination
No team is perfect defensively. Oilers are amongst the top in a lot of defensive metrics. Meanwhile Skinner is amongst the bottom in GSAA.

I’m not one to pile on Skinner, but he looked lazy as **** trying to get across on two goals tonight.

It was a tire fire on an own zone face-off protecting a lead. No reason for Ekholm to be on his knees. If that was Nurse people would lose their shit. Poorly played from the draw and open look for the opposition's best player. Add a no stop goaltender and it's a tied game. Doesn't have anything to do with defences being perfect, obviously non are. This was a bad team play with the game in hand.

It probably should’ve been at least 3-0, not 3-2.

Well unfortunately it wasn't. Defensive zone face-off to protect a lead and the team breaks down to give the opposition's best player an uncontested kill shot in high danger ice. Bad look. Especially with the goaltender they have. Way too passive given the situation. Fortunate the Oil dominated the OT to win back the extra point.

The defense played very well and Skinner still gives up 3 goals. At least 2 of them were very stoppable.

The team defense breakdown the last two minutes took a dominating game to OT. Regardless of what else happened. Have to win these critical situations. Ekholm on his knees giving up high danger kill shot to the Islanders top player pushed this dominating game to OT. Skinner being mediocre and a critical moment team defending mistake can both be true statements.

If I was to assign blame for the game going from 3-1 to 3-3, I’d probably do something like 80/20 on Skinner/the defense.

Hmm, that’s a familiar ratio ;)
