I am on the next season train as well. This sounds like a blessing in disguise for the Bruins. If AIP Murphy was to be believed they were about to give away Carlo and that would have been bad.

Mac also needs time I think. Hoping for the best for Mac. ...
Good bet no good next season either & if they are it's going to take some SUPER GOOD DECISIONS.

Considering the B's have nothing in terms of prospects that are defensemen, I hope they don't trade Carlo without having any idea of how to replace him. They really don't need another hole to fill.

Agreed…but I don’t think they need to replace him this season, if they move him.

If they get an offer they can’t refuse, do it.

Worry about his replacement in the off season.

Trade him anyways and go for the lottery pick. You can still replace him in summer.

Carlo is having a down year, and its an outlier season. At the end of the day he's a 28yr old premier right handed top 4 shutdown d-man who ranks 3rd in the NHL over the last 3 years in SH TOI.

It easy to say replace him in the summer, but is there a guy out there that can replace him for $4.1 to $4.5 million?

Carlo is also way better when he plays with Lindholm, so maybe you think twice about dealing him. I would love to see Lindy with McAvoy for a full season though

He not no premier right shot D man, to me ..He contributes nothing on offense essentially killing your entire pairing .Far as killing penalties goes, yea he plays alot there, but Bruins pk is bad.Could be an outlier as you alluded to though so I concede that.If he is premier D man and cheap as you stated then he should fetch a big haul which is exactly what this franchise needs more of at this point in time.Anyhow , the deadline is coming up fast so things will be answered.

Question is when would you get the most for him- at the deadline for a playoff run or in the offseason when all teams could bid on him?

I expect a pretty big turnover to this roster next season and, while I like Carlo, he’s very frustrating because of his offensive limitations.

I’m not looking to trade him just for fun, but If someone is willing to give up something of value, I have no problem seeing him go.

Is it an outlier season or is Carlo more suited to a more collapsing style of defending? He spent his entire career basically in the Julien system of zone defense. Whether it's a tough adjustment or he just doesn't read the game well enough.

That's enough years of running McAvoy and Carlo as right shot D #1 and #2. Time for a different skillset at that position. McAvoy is going nowhere so that leaves Carlo. Watching these 4 Nations you can see what an asset it is to have D-men who are assets on the offensive zone blue-line, opens everything else up. Time to change the approach even Carlo is a capable player in his own end (in maybe the right system).

Not that an infection is good but that should be a lot less of a problem than some of the other possible health problems being mentioned. However, it will probably result in the usual weight loss, etc., and it will take a bit of time to get back to full speed.

This definitely will not help their playoff push but I hope he waits until he's really right to return. This season is not shaping up as being worth putting himself at risk.

If Makar and possibly Q Hughes are in for Canada, and McAvoy is a definite no for USA, that changes things.

Infections are tricky. They can range from nothing to life threatening. In Mac's case, I would think they would worry about a heart lining infection. I have no medical knowledge unlike some here, so just guessing.

That might a fair return, but who takes his place? Now keep in mind Lindholms injury, might be a tough one to comeback from, and who knows what the hell the truth is with McAvoy.
Talking about Carlo?

I guess you just get a JAG to play out the string. Or assuming they face some time without McAvoy and/or Lindholm they could go with

Zadarov
Lohrei
Peake
Wotherspoon
Callahan
Oesterle

Obviously that is very ugly with 3 of your regular top 4 out of that mix. Nobody wants to see that group but that's probably what it would look like without bringing in a JAG to bump Callahan or Oesterle.

Unfortunately if they are not firmly committed to wanting to bring Carlo back next year, you probably have to move him for something regardless of whether it plunges the defense into the abyss. I'm ambivalent about him honestly but, if he goes, tell me who is eventually coming in that is better and fits into their payroll picture? Whether now or in the summer, a legit top 4 isn't falling off the bargain tree.

Jeremy Lauzon just went down for the season. Prices for top 4 defensemen will only continue to go up between now and the deadline.

I said he was a premier shutdown d-man. What does his offense have to do with being a shutdown d-man. Over the last 3 seasons Carlo among D-men at 5v5 ranks 8th in GA/60 and 6th in HDGA/60....that's while having the highest defensive zone starts among all d-men.

He's a one dimensional player. And this year (and parts of last year) he isn't even playing that dimension.

You can easily replace that. Hell I'd take Peeke at 2 mill less. Get draft picks or good prospect(s)

Sorry my mistake.I would agree more if he used his size but he is a marshmellow. But those stats u posted suggest you are right about him ...Anyhow ,thankfully not long till deadline is here and we get some answers from management about team direction.Ps.The defensive zone starts are because he cant help on offense very much but again good point backed with stats
