little fake, froze the players covering the high point and forced the other to drop low as they thought it was going to be a shot (as I did too), allowing Szwarz just enough time to release a one-timer.

Simple play by appearance but how often have I/We watched a D-man, both young or experienced insist on trying to blast one through the opponent? Heady play

Szwarz has some nice scoring skill too, never heard of the guy before reading about him here.

Tommy Cross is impressive if only because he`s the exact description of a d-man who keeps it simple.

You mean the "Colin Miller special"? I understand if Charlie doesn't make the trek up 95 until next season. But, screw it, I want him getting the 2012-13 Krug treatment this playoff run.

ya never know, C Miller isn`t the only one who does it. Drives me nuts watching it from the comfort of my couch and it`s far from just Bruin players doing it, watched Phaneuf last night do this 3 times in two consecutive shifts

I liked what I saw from McAvoy, was pleasantly surprised at his willingness to engage physically, not that he laid out opponents left and right but I was anticipating a kid being a bit hesitant which he wasn`t.

His positioning on a few plays wasn`t terrific but his foot speed is such an asset, just gets himself back into position so quickly. His first passes last night were great to see

Thinking he took #43 in Prov because 4+3=7 which was his College number.

Since Heinen has #43 in the Pros so far how about #34?

It would take a while, maybe even years but I'm sure he can live up to the legacy Soderberg left behind ;)

I think we see some jersey roulette for the Bruins during the off-season.

-McAvoy wore #25 for the WJC (Carlo currently wears #25)

-Carlo in the WHL & WJC wore #26 (JML currently wears #26)

-JML is a UFA and wont be back next years.

Carlo takes #26
McAvoy takes #25

I wonder if burning a year of ELC is really a big deal. If they do it, he becomes RFA a year earlier but will also have a less of a resume at that time to demand a max long term deal. Maybe by burning a year of his ELC it sets them up for a nice lower cost bridge deal that more than makes up for the burned year. The only way it backfires is if he puts up monster numbers in two years, but that's a nice problem to have.

I say burn it.

See I have a problem with the term

Burn a year on the ELC means. Signing a player and inserting him in the NHL for a game simply to burn a year on the ELC. Usually an agreement reached at signing time

If the Bruins believe he makes the NHL team better then I don't consider that burning an ELC year. If they bring him up and play him 15+ minutes a night every game the rest of the year, then you are making a hockey decision, and I can support that

What's the reason college players don't get a 10 game tryout? I hate how there are different rules for different leagues.

It's an age thing. Not a league thing

If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year. For example, if a player signed an ELC for three seasons from 2015-16 to 2017-2018, and their contract slides, their contract is now effective from 2016-17 to 2018-19. An exception to this rule is that if the player is 19 on September 15 of the first year of their contract, and turns 20 between September 16 and December 31, their contract does not slide.

Players who sign at 18 years old are eligible to have their contracted extended for 2 seasons. This extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 in his signing year. Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.

So he's too old for a 10 game tryout? Sorry, not very knowledgeable when it comes to the business side of things.

Based on that rule he should be allowed to slide? Dom would probably know best about this

I've answered this numerous times, and will again: McAvoy's contract will not slide if he plays in Boston, no matter how many games he plays

Here's the thing, I've been very busy with the OHL playoffs so I may have missed it, but last time I checked, he hasn't signed an ELC. If/when he does, or someone points out that he has signed an ELC, I will gladly point out the scenarios.

Until he does sign an ELC, he can't even play in the NHL, so it's all a moot point right now.

Colin White has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Ottawa.
He is expected to join the team in Detroit on Monday and could make his NHL debut. White has recorded one goal and two assists in three games with Binghamton after he agreed to an amateur tryout contract out of Boston College.

I like it! It shows they want to win. I hope they Bruins follow suit.

Does it?

Or does it show they are reeling and need some help right now?

We agree. I'm not suggesting that they bring him up for the purpose of burning an ELC year. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be so terrified of burning one if they think he can help, it might even work in their favor by making a lower cost bridge deal more likely

The Bruins are trending up again.

McAvoy, Carlo, Krug all real young. Zboril-Lauzon-Lindgren in the wing. Chara to mentor the.

Bergeron-Marchand-Krejci-Backes the veteran core for the next 4 years.

Pasta evolving into one of the top snipers in the league. So many young forwards that will be able to be brought slowly to top roles because of these top veteran core.

If McAvoy play in Providence showsto be top-4+PP worthy in the NHL, do you really wait to next year or you par the 1 ELC year and make in step in for the playoffs and improve your team?

If the Bruins win Tuesday I'm thinking McAvoy is playing a game up here Thursday or Saturday

Does it?

Or does it show they are reeling and need some help right now?

It shows they're getting offence from basically 2 guys (Turris/Hoffman) and their $8M man Bobby Ryan has forgotten how to play hockey. That guy, is ****ing bizarre. What in the world has happened to him :| Dont care, I dont like Ottawa, keep losing!

Im thinking this too, once we've clinched, give him a game so we know what the quantities are when we're in the PO's and can he be a Krug 2013.

Great vision on that last pass, almost like Pasta's pass to Krug the other night

yep, thought he was going to shoot, perfect pass to whomever that was (didn`t catch the number/name) and the feed I have shows no replays but man o man, vision

He made another pass early in the period in the neutral zone that only few can make or even see. I thought for sure the play was up the wall but nope, tape to tape pass to the man in the middle who did little with it as I think he was shocked a puck even hit his stick:laugh:

White greatly improves their chances now and in the future no matter if their reeling or not. And Ottawa wants to finish with home ice and I'm sure by adding White and getting Karlsson and Marc Methot back should help stop the reeling but I believe their plans all along was for White to get his feet wet down in the A and then get called up.
