Coyle has a great puck possession game, once he's plugged into the 3c spot that line can be dominant at both ends. It's a huge hole that's been plugged once everyone is healthy.

I think he’s the kind of guy that needs the right linemates to thrive. IMO, that’s one player who likes to handle the puck and make plays, and one player who is a shooter.

Coyle is the complimentary piece in the offensive zone, a guy with good hands who will get the skill guys the puck, retrieve losose pucks, play a good possession game on the walls and be the net front screen when shots are taken.

Not an option this year, but I think a line of DeBrusk - Coyle - Bjork would dominate. Bjork is your skillsy playmaker, JDB the shooter and Coyle the guy who does the heavy lifting in the Dzone and compliments in the Ozone.

Coyle's value to the team will shine once they get the injured guys back.

He's a guy that you can put on the wing in a pinch, but his value is a middle 6 center, preferably 3C.
exactly, he was added to help stabilize and add depth then poof, that depth immediately depleted with all the injuries

I'm slightly concerned since Minnesota probably thought the exact same thing for a long time (almost 7 years) and played him with all kinds of different talent.

I think he is what he is at this point. He's a somewhat steady 40 pt producer with occasional flashes. While versatile he doesn't seem to be able to adapt to every line seamlessly.

That's not a bad player by any means. Does a lot of good things, has some weaknesses, doesn't produce as much as he should. solid, unspectacular player, but fills a role.

Peverley was a more versatile player, if Coyle can reach his level we'd have some depth scoring. He's already not too far from that anyway.

While I understand what you are saying, I believe that in order to properly assess his time in a Bruins uniform, we first have to see what he plays like if and when he`s paired with linemates with more skill than Nordy/Backes which only happens if the B`s get healthy

I agree he is what he is, but I don't think we're going to see a "steady 40pt producer" without finding the right mix of line mates, and so far they haven't been able to.

Surround him with the right pieces, not all-stars, just the right complimentary pieces, and I think he could be one of the better 3c's in the league. 40-50 points, the occasional wow moment but more importantly someone who's dependable defensively, who's big and strong, who's good on the walls and in front of the net...

In regards to what I bolded, they also haven't had their full team since they acquired him.

Agree with this 100%. I actually think he's very similar to Heinen, which is why I don't think they should play together when the lineup is fully healthy. Both need to play with someone who is a willing shooter and will drive to the net.

If you play them together, you'll have a solid defensive line that has quite a bit of possession in the offensive zone (and the CF% would be incredible), but you're also probably not going to get much offensive production.
