Long time lurker here and came to post this question.

Do you think the Kings are taking their time with announcing new Head Coach that it might be Mike Stothers and they are waiting for the Reign to be done with the playoffs? I feel Stevens is still to similar to Sutter.

Listening to Blake say they're looking for a already establish NHL coach, I say that doesn't included Stothers.

My guess is Stevens takes over for Sutter, Stothers takes over for Payne and Greene retires and takes over as D coach / margarita maker

Why would Greene retire and leave $2.5 million on the table to become an assistant where he will make a couple hundred k. I assume he'd take a year off get paid on LTIR and then decide what he wants to do, but I assume he'd start out coaching in Ontario if he had coaching aspirations.

If you buy a guy out in the last year of his contract, are you on the hook for the entire hit still or is there some relief?

No way he just retires unless it helps him land a long term job with the Kings, something that seems a formality regardless of if he retires or not.

Hopefully Blake can pull some LTIR magic. I'm skeptical since they said Greene was traveling and skating with the team.

Maybe they send him to Ontario for the Rob Scuderi experience while he never plays for them and is part of the Kings staff.

It does really suck that a lot of people that probably really weren't a huge reason for the collapse of this franchise also take the fall in addition to the major decision makers.

Goodluck to him hopefully landing another NHL job soon.

Lucic was looking for the most money. He did LA a favor by letting them match EDM offer, but he was going to whoever offered the most and the Kings just couldn't even come close.

I think the best they could do was 5 mil over 4/5 years and a 4.75 deal over 10 years, or something like that. Everyone knew Lucic wanted 6 mil as a starting point and a long term deal, which eventually got.

C'mon Herby, this is a hockey board where things like 2.5 million dollars and CA taxes are not relevant items!

Ya Ranford is huge. Not sure if he has higher coaching aspirations as 11 years is a really long time as a position coach, he may be happy just doing that. But if he wanted to be an assistant I'd hope they would strongly consider it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Stevens get the job. Although, I like the idea of having a completely new voice. But hiring from within would be consistent with what they've been doing so far.

Everyone keeps saying they've cleaned house, but really they just rearranged it. Everyone (Luc, Blake, Futa) who's been "hired" were already apart of the org.

?? I don't understand all the Ranford love. What's so special? - Quick has several areas of his game that need improvement

- he's never met a high shot that he won't drop to his knees and watch the puck fly over his shoulder into the net (see last game vs ducks)
- he shows very limited hockey smarts on realizing what the opposing player is likely to do with the puck
- he seems so surprised when the shooter goes for a wraparound (see over-committing blurb below)
- he's on his knees w/ paddle down whenever the puck is on the goal line, but it's way over at the boards, with the shooter having no angle to shoot at. (leaving the top wide open of course and the space behind his knees) - STAND UP! The shooter cannot score if you're standing at the post, and you can also go to the other post much faster
- he over-commits to one side or the other
- he does the splits waaaay too much - i.e. he ain't getting any younger. He will have more frequent groin injuries by flopping around as much as he does.
- he has no idea how or when to pokecheck
- he still has no idea how to play the puck behind the net.
- since the offense can't score, he tries to do too much. He knows that if he gives up 2 goals, the game is quite likely over - not his fault of course, but it affects how he plays with or without a lead.

Ranford is doing a great job?? Really? how hard is it to study your GA, and try to learn from your (and opposing teams) play?

Despite my observations, Quick is still the best goalie LA has ever had... but by a few simple adjustments he can be even better - with any goalie coach.

I want Stothers as the next HC for no other then if it's just because he's the best interview in hockey.

Haha.

It would be nice to have a coach with a little personality and one that doesn't sound like a stroke victim (no offense), something Sutter and Stevens both seem to suffer from.

Quick
Bernier
Jones
Berube

You severely underestimate Ranford's role in developing these goalies.

And your analysis is rather specious, but I don't have time to address it all right now

Ill add Campbell since i think he might be our Back up next season.... and should improve tremendously under Ranford if he's still here... also i assume you meant Budaj and not Berube???

He got an extra year and the full NMC from the Oliers, he's in full control of where he plays for 7 years, new stadium, younger team with a peaking McDavid, seems like a no brainer for anybody.
