Even just 1 year. If we had not signed Kadri, moved a 1st to trade Monahan, traded Huberdeau and Weegar for picks at the TDL we could have a quick rebuild. Now it's 8 years of middling in and out minimum. Assuming we draft well.
Eh, not really. Or at least, not necessarily depending on what direction the team wants to follow.

There's only 6 players signed for the 25/26 season, and two of those players are pending UFA's (Markstrom & Andersson). This team could retool and outright rebuild in hurry if it wanted to.

I still like their pieces.

Get rid of Sutter, and see how that goes. If the same issues still persist, sell off at the deadline.

They created a 2 year window.
Too much money tied on old players and little to high end young players

The 1st done is going about the worst way possible.

Weegar it sounded like teams were interested in and likely will be.

Huberdeau I highly doubt.

Maybe the flames should try a different coach first?

I dont think anybody is touching Huberdeau's Signing Bonuses
they are brutal

even if you were the most optimistic huberdeau fan, the structure of his money is insane
He's got like a $9.5 million SB when he is 37 years old.

Rebuild in a hurry? Are you trading out picks to move Kadri and Huberdeau or eating 17.5M in cap space? Then add in those players keep you out of the bottom 5 territory and you have quite a job trying to build a contender.

Yup that was always the problem. All of our value contracts except Andersson expire next season. It was why I hated this summer. I thought we'd be better than we are, but still nowhere near the Avs,

Very kind of the flames to wait until right after the Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov draft to do this. Them and Canucks looking out for the tanking teams as best they can.

Lindholm to the Avs would be nice.
Yes he'd fit in nicely at that cap hit for any contender. I honestly thought the Avs would put together a package for him this TDL. Ideal fit behind Mackinnon too. Wins draws, kills penalties, defensive stopper and still puts up numbers. Everything the Avs needed. Even without him the will have an easy time until the finals.

Getting out of that Kadri contract should be priority number one moving forward.

They can live with Huberdeau. And guys like Backlund, Lindholm, Tanev and Hanifin are bound to get them positive returns, significant or not.

This volcano erupted when Gaudreau and Tkachuk split though. The hockey world didn't get the memo.

Not surprising. The current GM's contract is expiring and there's been no talk of an extension.

Sutter becoming a cancer in the room, and just an over all incredibly toxic presence this entire year. Then you have a huge chunk of the team being free agents in 2024 and tons of rumors that key players from that group are very unhappy with Sutter.

Could end up being a very wild summer depending on whether Sutter's fired or not.
I don’t think people realized how disliked Sutter was before he was fired by the Kings

You know you still have to reach the cap floor, even if you're rebuilding right?

As for the latter part, sheer nonsense. The Avs with MacKinnon or the Kings with Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick didn't have a problem with bottoming out. Don't see why or how Kadri and Huberdeau, who have both struggled in Calgary, are suddenly too good to prevent the Flames from tanking.

Oh some people knew. There's just a very strong cultist like following of the Sutters in Calgary, such that, even after massively damaging the franchise's reputation a decade ago, Darryl was still welcomed back as a savior the next time around. There's just a very strong amount of denial over what he is.

Not going to lie I didn't even know Huberdeau had a bunch of signing bonuses.

Does that help, hurt, or nothing towards a buyout potentially ?

Noah Dobson for Pelts and Coronato :sarcasm:

But seriously, if I want to take anything from the flames its Mangiapane or Zadorov.

The Avs with Mackinnon had terrible D and goaltending. I don't think we will have a hard time reaching the floor. Heck we have to move out a player this offseason just to not exceed the ceiling. You're usually a pretty good poster, but you're pretty out to lunch on this topic. You're talking about an organization that hasn't drafted top 3 in their 43 year history. Even when we went through this last rebuild we had guys like Giordano, Brodie, Hudler, Cammalieri who prevented the top 3 pick. Same thing this time around except the "leftover guys" make an insanely large boat anchor capwise. It's even worse this time.

I think Seravalli is a wet behind the ears prognosticator that gets paid to putout 'stuff' whether it is accurate or not. He most likely latches on to a kernel of truth and then projects an outcome.

Having said that, the Flames are not immune to an ownership desire for a culture change.

At the end of the day this league has always been about what have you done for me lately?

This year has been a frustrating year for the management, players, and fans as they have underachieved for whatever reasons.

They were kicked in the gonads during the summer and Treliving made the best of it raising fans expectations (unfairly by the fans I might add) that they wouldn't miss a beat from the previous year.

Then Shill was a no show.

Then Huby and Kadri have had poor seasons.

Weegar has been great though.

Marky has had a bad season, but the team in front hasn't jelled to to the degree needed.
