GWT: Champions League - League Stage

Poor you, the frustration is intense. It's VAR that took 3 minutes for an obvious goal. Goal was scored way before the end of added time.

Not sure what your frustration has to do with me, but I sincerely hope you’re having a better day today.

I thought that by now UEFA would have established a competition for former succesful clubs, who didn't qualify for any other UEFA competions any given season. So similar type of competition than in South America, Copa Sudamerica, Copa Mercosur and its' other predecessors.

Call it Greats League, for example.

I'm pretty sure it would attract good TV and sponsor income, and since these would be big / traditional clubs, match attendance would be good too. Next season's competition could include clubs like Manchester United, AC Milan, Dortmund, Marseille, Sevilla, Tottenham etc.

Depending on how many teams UEFA would want to take part (perhaps 8, maybe 16) the qualifying criteria could be:

1st catergory of eligible clubs:
- former CL winners during the past 30 years

2nd catergory of eligible clubs:
- former Europa League winners during the past 30 years
- former Conference League/other UEFA competion winners during the past 30 years

3rd catergory of eligible clubs:
- former CL finalists during the past 30 years
- former Europa League finalists during the past 30 years
- former Conference League/other UEFA competion finalists during the past 30 years

4th catergory of eligible clubs:
-former CL winners more than 30 years ago
-former Europa League winners more than 30 years ago
-former Conference League/other UEFA competion winners more than 30 years ago

5th catergory of eligible clubs:
-league winners of TOP5 leagues
-league winners of TOP10 leagues

etc.

Within categories, clubs could be ranked with recency, so more recent winner/finalist would be ranked higher.

To ensury that there wouldn't be low standard participants, teams could be required to play at top tier (or at second tier) in their domestic league. Might also make sense to limit number of participating teams from the same country.

I'd like to see this type of competiton, participants would likely vary quite a bit from one season to another, although some clubs might be there for several years in a row,

LFC is taking the B team to PSV. Might watch PSG x Stuttgart instead

On a related note, that’s 9/11 of the Starting XI for Bournemouth sorted

So if City beats Brugge, a PSG-Stuttgart draw sees all 3 of City, PSG, & VFB to advance, right?
I think so? Unless Zagreb do something crazy maybe?

City, PSG, Stuttgart & Zagreb can get to 11. I think 11 should get you in (PSG and Brugge could still get in with losses finishing at 11)

If Shaktar beats Dortmund they max out at 10; Benfica and Sporting (along with PSG and Stuttgart) are currently on 10. So might depend a bit on what the Portugese teams do. Bit of a mess still

BVB most likely won't get into the top 8 or fall out of the top 24 regardless of what happens, so just try not to embarrass yourselves please.

Andy Robertson is playing CB today. Jayden Danns is starting over Darwin Nunez, who was going to start but got sick

Neto being Arsenal's oldest debutant since 1915 is quite a stat

And what a debut it is... :skeptic: lucky not to be punished for that lol

Donnarumma with a brilliant save to maintain the lead - Stuttgart look very dangerous on the counter.

And from that save, a PSG counter attack makes it 2-0. Flagged in real time, but given on review.

Useless team. No money or depth. Kalululu is non Cheillini, but is quite solid. He gets in and now we have no CBs to sub in. Locattelli is now being used as a CB. We are now down to Gatti as our only official CB. He's not starting material.
