Champions League Knockout Stage

I wasn't following closely when Bojan broke out, but to what extent was that a function of him being The Next Barcelona Prospect right after Messi exploded into being the best player in the world at 20?

Yamal's enormous amounts of hype has come directly out of the performances (especially at the Euros)
Exactly.

Bojan had a lot more hype than Yamal in academy but once he joined the senior club... Not so much

Bojan did show early promise. At some point he benched Ibra (albeit some of it was off field stuff) he did produce for a young player. I think the biggest issue for Bojan was mentally. He even spoke about how he suffered a lot.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Bojan chronologically came like right after Messi started exploding and he was the first “next Messi” especially the first La Masia version of next Messi. People were incredibly hyped over Bojan

Correct, until he started playing in the first team and it was understood more or less immediately that he was a different wool.

Yup,

It’s pretty sad stuff but I’m glad he seems to be ok now. He’s slightly older than me and when I watched him save Barca in the CL right after coming from school I couldn’t help be a fan of his. I had surgery shortly after all this and my brother gifted me a Bojan kit not a Messi one.

Bojan should get some appreciation. At least he tried to do it on a cold rainy tuesday night in Stoke unlike Messi ;)

Finally caught up to the Barca match. That third goal…. Have to keep the team grounded though as this is not close to peak BVB.

Not the Man of the Match, but have to give a shout to De Jong. He’s obviously playing with confidence and it shows. Going to need him to keep it up if he’s going to start.

Raphinha, Pedri and Dembele are.
Heck Kane too if Bayern turns it around.
Nah. Salah has been one million times better than Raphinha, and Szczesny has contributed more Barca's success (along with hiring Flick) than the Brasilian has.

Dembele is a good shout, he's in the top 3 for me, but I'm not sure if I would take him over Salah. PSG has already clinched the title due to how horrible Ligue 1 has turned into (not at the top, but middle and bottom). Salah's stat line in the EPL is supremely more impressive; it's harder to win going to Fulham or Bournemouth than to Nantes or Nice.

Lol.
Seeing PSG dominate Liverpool over 2 legs, I'd say your point is moot.
PSG is champions already (Pool is pretty much as well) because they're been absolutely brilliant.

Doesn't Raphinha have more non-penalty goals and assists?
IIRC he only has like 2 or 3 pens this season, so almost assuredly.

It's a big of a weird comparison between the two. Salah has undoubtedly been better in the PL than Raphinha has been in La Liga. But Raphinha has absolutely owned the CL this year whereas Salah was alright, but not very great.

The only argument against Raphinha I can make is that our attack goes mainly through Yamal, but Raphinha (and Lewa ofc) being such a great finisher makes everything tick.

Pedri? Midfielders with no "stats" rarely win it, if ever. Not saying he is not deserving, it would just be surprising.

On Barca, Raphinha has the better "traditional" case.
Oh i Know he probably won't win it but he is the most deserving off all barca players. EASILY.

If the award goes to stats than it is a forward's trophy (it mostly is ) if its for the BEST player of the year it should be Pedri.
