Confirmed Trade: [CGY/PHI] Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

I know the flyers and flames fans opinions. Anyone here actively hate the flames and have an opinion.
Oiler fans that have posted in here seem baffled by Philly making this move.

I know I'm biased, but the only way this deal makes any sense from Philly is if Briere viewed Farabee as a cap dump. I would have been okay with Pelletier and a 2nd for Frost quite frankly, and I love Pelts. Essentially getting Farabee for Kuzmenko and a 7th on top of that is just astonishing to me.

I have incredible frustration with the un-punished incompetence with the Penguins organization the last few years. But I would've lost my mind (or my willingness to carry on) long ago if I were a Flyers fan. The notion of making these moves to satisfy some coach that is clearly just treading water is pretty nuts.

You guys are made of some pretty strong stuff.

It’s getting much closer for me. There are fans over the years just speaking in HF terms who have stopped posting or touching anything Flyers related on the board. I moved from PA almost a year ago at this point. So things are getting much easier for me to disassociate with this organization.

If you look back at all the moves made since Torts has been here, they’re all moving players out he either clashed with or just doesn’t like.

For all that this looks better for Calgary, Kuzmenko has by far had the best NHL single season of traded group. If Philly can get that Kuzmenko playing with Michkov then it makes sense for them.

Hope for the best for Philly because I really don't have any ill-will to them or the players we traded them.
But man, with how Michkov is already treated, and how Kuzmenko lost the confidence of two coaches (including Huska who for sure is a player-first coach)... like if I were betting and my options were:

A) Kuzmenko rediscovers his groove and becomes a big part of the Flyers.
or
B) Kuzmenko is a healthy scratch within 20 games and Torts hates him.

I think I know where I'm betting.

Farabee has 4 years remaining. Kuzmenko is on an expiring deal.

Monumental cap relief.
Funny thing is the Flames need the cap hits to stay near the floor with the cap going up. Might as well spend it on younger guys with upside than overpaying older vets on 1-2 year deals.

No good center except for Nental (rental) is on the market so I think its a pretty decent price to get Morgan Frost and Pelletier wasnt a beauty lately but show improvements and potential. Kuzmenko and Farabee were good and then sucks. Kuzmenko dont hold much value, but some would consider as a salary cap bully.

Its tough to judge but I see equal.

This trade oh my lord:

Frost and Farabee had no future on the Flyers they are what they are.
but man does the value not seem that great. Pretty much hoping Kuzmenko somehow turns back into his rookie year, and that is not likely to happen.

I guess they also gained some flexibility to make some UFA mistakes idk

Yeah but even if Kuzmenko catches lightning in a bottle the rest of the way for Philly he’s still a UFA. Then they either have to pay him (bad idea) or he just walks. They aren’t a playoff team, even if he catches fire all it does is hurt their draft position

Farabee is a 24 year old winger coming off his first 50 point season, having not scored less than 34 any of the previous 4 years, signed for three years after this at a reasonable number. By the time his deal expires, the cap will be $113M.

I guess I don’t see the need to move off this player.

So he’s not a superstar. So what. He’s a good player, he’s yours, and you could reliably plug him into your top-9 for 82 games a year.

You can’t do that with Pelletier or Kuzmenko.
Flyer fan here. It hurts to lose Frost, I dont get why he exactly is the player you want to trade. He's a valuable piece going forward. Unless Briere come up with a really huge trade soon this all seems to be complete nonsense to me.
Flyers franchise is absolutely going nowhere.

We have 7 picks in the first two rounds in the upcoming drafts. I wonder if anyone in Philly has a clue what to do with them.

Good trade for the Flames and Philly dumped cap. Don't mind it for either team but thought Calgary got much better value in return. Farabee isn't a negative asset IMO, he's only 24 and had 50 points last year. To me, Philly trading Frost was the weird one.

The Flyers are right there with Buffalo at the bottom. Other teams should be calling Briere nonstop.

Farabee is a very good 5 v 5 player. He will be worth his contract and productive. His best years are ahead.

Frost is what he is. I don’t mind moving off from him but not just giving him away like this. I could see him being a 50 pt player.

Morgan Frost's most common linemates, this season: 144 min with Tippett and Michkov, 117 min with Tippett and Konecny, 42 min with Laughton and Michkov, 22 min with Tippett and Ryan Poehling, and so on. This is not a player who was buried with grinders...this is a player who has been given ample opportunity to discover his offense and contribute. And he's not that bad...but he will be looking to get paid next year (TheAthletic model values him at...4.9 million! I guarantee the same Flyer fans complaining about this trade would be apopoleptic if they had to pay Frost anything remotely like that!!), and Flyers have had enough of a look at him over the years to clearly decide they don't need to be the ones paying him, and that they can better for the money spent. Fine.

Joel Farabee is a different story. 152 min with Couturier and Konecny, 69 min with Laughton and Brink, 46 min with Couturier and Michkov, 34 min with Couturier and Hathaway, and so on. This is a player who has been given some leash, and has not done anything with it, and has gotten moved down the lineup. He he has not really lived up to his contract, a pretty good one that he got as an RFA based on potential. He has simply not taken consistent steps forward...and once again, Flyers can easily say "I can spend his pretty good money on something better, for sure I can pay new players in my system to perhaps do just as well for a lot less. Again, TheAthletic model has him valued at 3.1 million...he might rehabilitate his value, might be simplest thing in the world, but Flyers have other ideas.

On July 1, Flyers will have a ton of cap to spend. And if they wait until next July 1, they will have enough to sign the most expensive player in the NHL, if they want, and can get it done. And not having Frost and Farabee at ~10 million is a big part of that, because they barely moved the needle while they were here, so move on and move forward.

Test driving Kumenko is just a test after all, he costs nothing next year. And acquiring a 2nd might be the final piece the Flyers need to include in a trade of Risto AND not have to retain...they should never retain any more money, they should be done with that so in summer of 2026, they are finally clear of all the dead cap they have had these last few years.

All good. Best of luck to Joel and Morgan, they might be better than they have shown in Philly. It won't upset me to see them do well, cuz they couldn't do very well while they were in Philly.

Philly giving up on good 24 and 25 year olds to add a UFA that is lazy and unproven prospect and a 2nd.

Like ffs, Farabee was a 50 point guy last year, and Frost was on pace for about the same. Philly was taken to the woodshed because their coach is a dinosaur and doesn't build up his young guys, he tries to break them. All of them.

The only team I would ever have him coach is an elite contender that is veteran laid and needed to be pushed to the edge.

Obviously one can spin anything into positives but if you do not need/want something doesn’t mean you have to give them away

They still have values and imo, the Flyers didn’t get value back

Yeah but wouldn’t this be bad for philly? Like it’ll make their draft pick worse then they’ll have to pay Kuzy if they want to keep him
Very bad. He comes in and finishes good then signs extension

Next year he pulls the same game as he did with his last two teams
