I understand betting on Nemec's upside, I don't get why Calgary would be the team to make that bet.

You don't get many chances to find top pairing defensemen. And this guy has the pedigree. Even if he falls a bit short, there's a good chance you can move him for a similar return three or four years from now.

Right shot defensemen are one of the rarer commodities out there.

I don't get the people saying Calgary paid a small price, two firsts and a second for a player with a decent skill-set, but awful skating and poor defensive play who hasn't shown much offense at the NHL level yet.

I wouldn't have offered a single late first for Nemec, don't like him as a player at all.

The old GM was looking at moving nemec only for more immediate assets eg a top 6 forward, which calgary didn't really have so makes sense their name wasn't out there then
