There were other things too though. I seem to remember that Hervey didn't want to cooperate with players being mic'ed up and that caused some controversy with the league?? He also had a rough relationship with the media, Mr. Jones and others around the team.

He definitely has a history as a hot-head (playing days as well). We'll see if he has matured a bit. If so its good because he definitely had some success in bringing in talent.
My time in the pro-Ed Hervey camp goes back to his playing days when his appearances on Jason Gregor's old Just A Game radio show provided insight, if not justification into that hot-headedness you refer to. I appreciated the job Hervey did as a scout for the Eskimos and found him to be a badly-needed breath of fresh air after Rider-at-heart (& Regina resident) Eric Tillman's sketchy tenure as GM. Yes, Ed was often at odds with the CFL, those above him in his own team's organization and most of the media covering them- aside from his old friend Gregor. Hervey was a lot to be sure, but his firing at the hands of Team Pres. Len "Winning's not enough" Rhodes a year after a GC win was unjust to put it mildly. I do recognize that Hervey has had limited success since moving on from the EE before the 2017 season. Even less successful in that time was the franchise he was forced to leave behind. My hope is that Ed's unquestionable loyalty to the Green & Gold, his adopted city and his new boss (like-minded ex-teammate Chris Morris) will combine with his player acquisition acumen to bring us victory-starved diehard Elks fans what we want most of all: a respected winning CFL franchise.

Islands in the stream.
In through the Out Door.

Seems worthy of a musical tribute...

I liked the album a lot at the time. Not as many listens now but worthwhile. Always thought it was interesting packaging with the brown paper cover< I beleive it was Peter Grants idea, and that the album came with 6 picture variations and you didn't know which one you were getting. I have the cover above, referred to as the "B Sleeve"

Time is a flat circle anyway. Wait long enough and the future past returns..

Interesting read anyway:

Have to figure Campbell is probably going to be the guy. Wouldn't be my first pick in an ideal world, but we need to be realistic about the options.

Campbell would bring experience, professionalism, and competent but unspectacular coaching on the sidelines. This would almost certainly be an upgrade on what we've seen for most of the last 9 years.

The other options seem to be sticking with Jackson, who I think most of us are lukewarm on at best, or bringing in one of the fired Calgary personnel, which could work out great, but is also a complete unknown.

Given the position the organization is in, going with a known commodity who Hervey (and assume Morris to some degree) are familiar with seems reasonable with no sure-fire candidate available.

Ultimately we just saw Mike O'Shea and his staff, generally regarded as the best in the league, utterly soil their pants in the Grey Cup. The coaching bar is not high in this league right now. If you can grab an average but experienced coach you're probably in a better situation than several other teams just on that alone. Is what it is, as they say.

I don't know who his one fan was but I would be happy to have Cornelius as the the third string short yardage QB. At third string pay off course.
That would work, but as you said, not for 450,000 per year, which is what he was making on his 2 year deal. Maybe about 40,000 to get his noggin banged a few times each game.

I'll give you a hint on the fan. He REALLY likes Leon.

My guess is that the EE offer him a 3 year contract. I wouldn't be shocked if he took it.
Hervey looks like he's on this one and will probably do a good assessment and maybe some rebuilding. I'm not sold on Tre, but at least I don't spell his name Trey. Or Tray. maybe they should proofread some of these articles. Interesting to see Hervey talking about the whispers and things that have been going on.

Some problems though taken from the article:

Hervey: “He’s a dynamic player. Everyone knows when he’s on the field, we’re all scared to death when he’s running. We want to hone his skills and get him to the point to where you know he can be a dual-threat weapon,”
I think Ford expects that the org already recognizes he is the dual threat weapon. Ford has said some things around that and I don't know how this would resonate with him.

Then this:

“I believe that the quarterback position is extremely important to the football team. I want to get to know him and if we can find common ground as to what that looks like, I’d love to give him every opportunity to compete to be the starter here,” Hervey said.

Yeah I dunno what happens here or what the convo will end up looking like. It could be too late as people have surmised. To me it sounds like Hervey considering all his options, which he should, but my Take from Ford is that he wants to be the option where he lands and for that to be a decided deal, and not that he's just in the running, just competing. Ford will possibly feel he's already earned that starter role.

On all this verbal from Hervey, I'm thinking this might be a tell that he's not just planning on just going out and buying VAJ or Harris or whoever is the best guy out there that's already established, but rather that he's also considering what he did in 2014 where he put Reilly and Nicholls head to head in training camp with the best man winning. Granted Reilly won by default due to injury but it still likely helped push both of them.

Tre may very well think he's "earned" the starter's role, but at minimum I'm sure he doesn't want to find himself in a situation where he's automatically the backup like what Jones did last year. If he's concerned about long term in the event he loses out, Hervey could also point to how he handled Nicholls once he fell out and quickly put him into a situation where he got to start.

Overall, I'd rather see this approach this time as there are a couple young QBs out there that may be ready to compete and I'd like to go into it with two viable options instead of all the eggs in one basket.

just a rumour, but his sources have turned out to be pretty decent in the past. I will be so happy if this is true
