So this is part of the problem. Ignorance. At no point have either of the two strikers in MLS ever gotten double digit goals. I mean if you want you to include non MLS Regular Season games like Leagues or US Open Cup then sure, Vrioni did it once. It was last year. In total, he has 16 MLS Goals in 67 Games. Owusu has only played 1 and a bit year and has 9 goals in 37 games (23 starts).

I'm going to cover this more in my reply down below but you say that stuff is part of Football, so what does that mean? That we should accept it? We should give our money and time and energy and love knowing all that and just accepting it for what it is because other low level teams do it?


I don't care what Saputo did 20 years ago. That was then, this is now. He doesn't get a lifetime of love so that we can ignore all the bullshit because of something back then. I like how you say that he did it without public funding but ignore the fact that he got the land for free and that's the only reason he built there instead of somewhere else. And let's be honest here, our stadium is not state of the art and never has been. It's pretty bare bones and it cost 17 million back then which would be about 24 million today.

Now the nepotism angle because I love it. Dallas Cowboys - Irrelevant and a disaster every year since the 90's. The other examples that you use, I really don't know why you use them, as none of them have family members working in hockey operation. That's the issue. The family is constantly involved in the decision making of the team from a soccer perspective, similar to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. The other ones aren't. This is a toy for him and his family to play with. It's not a professional soccer team.

You also say that he's invested a lot of money but he hasn't gotten the return. Why is that? First off all, of those names, only Drogba would be relevant. Henry was the coach. Nesta was well known but a defender and not exciting. Di Vaio and Piatti became stars. But regardless, it also proves the point that the team and family were not capable of capitalizing while having on field success. From a marketing perspective and corporate perspective, they've always been shit. And that's on them, not the fans, not the players, not the market. The owners ran things poorly. I'm pretty sure Joey has openly stated that he wants to keep ticket prices low so that it's affordable for families. While that's admirable in some way, doesn't help the bottom line or treat this team like a professional sports team.

Even this year, we "went out and got a DP right"? Nope. The expectation was that New England was going to buy him out until they basically gave him away for free (barely any GAM), and are covering a portion of his salary. My guess is that it's a lot.

Look at some of the signings in the past few weeks. We are regularly seeing teams spending more on an individual player than the entire team of CFMTL. Biggest reason is because they decided to invest a while ago and got good players that they sold and are starting the cycle over.

But look at those cities. You're trying to tell me that professional soccer can work financially in places like Columbus, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Atlanta, San Diego, Portland, San Jose, and others, but a city like Montreal has to be run like a team that should be relegated? Our budget actually decreased this year. Think about that.

You need to take the blue and black colored goggles off and really look at the big picture of the team. It is not pretty, and the belief that it's run more professionally than the Als, despite how you said there's so much nepotism already, is scary, and why this team can do what it does, because the majority of fans have blinders on their face.

Let's be honest, you're the biggest Debbie Downer here. Everything the team does is just shit and almost everyone is also dogshit. The team doesn't spend much but has probably better success in points/spending than many teams. You keep bringing spending every time as an argument but it doesn't guarantee success. A team like LAG finally got better when they got rid of Chicharito. Chicago spends too much on DPs but can't find a good supporting cast almost every year.

Then you get some teams like FC Dallas, Orlando, RBNY who don't spend too much and have some success. I'm still willing to give this new management some leeway. The acquisitions last Summer were good enough. Josef would probably not have been so successful if Clark hadn't been here. I wish we could hang on some young players for once but I also wish for a decisive player. I wish the new management would tell us they are looking for such a player.

Vrioni and Owusu are both taller than most strikers we've had recently. Can they win headers? We definitely need that.

Wow. It aint that deep. I 100% include all competitions because we play in those competitions too. You would be ignorant to not include them.

I see people using 'club formateur' as a description for this club, but I don't think that's the motivation of Saputo at all and this is not what they are doing right now.

You would need considerable investment for such thing to take place, and they are far, way far from there.

If we look at the last 12 years in MLS, the philosophy has always followed what the owner was willing to spend. The sporting philosophy is always 2nd in priority.

Right now, Saputo is losing money because his product is not attractive, so he wants to save money on soccer ops and hopefully make some money when re-selling young players acquired for cheap from other clubs.

I don't get why people think taller =better at headers. Josef Martinez is a beast in the air despite his height and scored many headers in his career.

Tim Cahill, Michael Owen, Griezmann are short(er) players that could score headers anyday of the day.

If we still play with 2 number 10s in Clark & Duke/Iankov/Vilsaint, your CF can't be a target man.

Vrioni and Owusu are both mid. Owusu is too streaky while Vrioni lacks confidence and composure and unless they both mysteriously improved mentally the struggle is gonna get real.


Marshall Rutty should hop on the first plane to the team that'll play in his position which is IMO a CAM/CM. He lacks the pace to be a top winger but he can function adequately.

Ironically we sucked hard on the road under Poesada because Ciman wasn't there. We sucked at positioning and marking (and heading) especially on set pieces. I'll give that to LP when he says that we play too aggressively too.

Advanced stats show that we have good ball playing CBs but not so great at defending. Weird but Campbell was like our 2nd best CB behind Waterman but Joel was shit on headers

It's one of the main storylines this season.

They fired the entire coaching staff and back in august when the team went on their run to the playoffs, Gervais alluded to the fact that drills were not taken as seriously as they should during training and alluded to the same in November. This is what prompted Ciman to come out swinging in La Presse.

Gervais pretty much threw the coaching staff under the bus. Let's see what gives.
