They turned pick 25 into a scrub and 4 mid second rounders. I do not like it. It does give them the tax mid-level exception and some trade ballast for Brogdon. Oh and it saves Wyc money.
Oh FFS.

Ownership just paid 70 mil in luxury tax penalties, they don't care about "saving money"

It was about getting the MLE for this season and having flexibility since 2nd rounder salaries aren't guaranteed cap holds.

This is Wyc "first time I have been in the tax forever" Grousebeck. He cares about saving money. You said yourself, no cap holds along with guys who will never make it. This organization is obsessed with analytics, value, money and unfortunately, Jaylen Brown. They will regret it.

I think perhaps your expectations for pick #25 are set a little too high:

2002 - Blake Wesley
2021 - Quentin Grimes
2020 - Immanuel Quickley
2019 - Nassir Little
2018 - Mo Wagner
2017 - Anzejs Pasecniks
2016 - Furkan Korkmaz
2015 - Jarell Martin
2014 - Clint Capela
2013 - Reggie Bullock

Capela and Quickley are somewhere between decent to pretty good NBA starters. Bullock and Wagner are decent rotation/bench players. Other than that? Yuck.

Be thankful we never again have to watch Smart have the ball in his hands with the clock running out or have to watch the ball find Smart at the end of game because the other team left Smart open

Tatums fragility in big games concerns me much more, but keep those blinders onamd this year youll have to find a new fall guy

The 2025 and 2026 picks will likely be in the low 30’s. That will be big for them as they try to fill out their bench with young, cheap talent they can try to develop

Agreed. Smart never embraced his role as the defensive hustling grinder. He always thought of himself as a star. I recall the magazine cover where the plan was for Tatum & Brown to headline, and someone* decided to invite Smart to be a part of it knowing he’d be butthurt. He wanted to take the big shots with the game on the line. If Smart just had an ounce of humble he’d been great here. I think his sensitivity/ toxicity hurt the teams vibe.
This is exactly right. Perfectly stated too.

Their inability to run an effective offense during crunch time for years now, falls directly on Marcus Smart as the PG. There's no fall guy, only reality

Not gonna act like I've ever heard of the guys that go late in the draft, but I really like what I'm reading about Walsh. Super athletic wing with a high motor that can come in and be a plus defender right away. If he ever develops even an average corner 3 he's gonna be a valuable role player. And it seems like even though his shots didn't fall in game, he did well at shooting drills in the combine and his shot form is already pretty good. So there's already something there to work with. Not saying he's gonna be an instant impact player, but I like the pick a lot based on what I'm reading.

Little isn't bad either.

but whose fault will it be this year when the same Tatum and Brown wilt in pressure time. Funny how these two "superstars" always have a scapegoat when they embarrass themselves on the big stage. I see them getting lazier and more entitled this year. Can see Smart getting those Memphis players to play harder as well

Celtics are pretty good at teaching young players to shoot. Shooting was one of the bigger areas of weakness for Brown and Tatum when they came out. Grant. Smart made improvements. Horford became a good outside shooter.

Walsh seems like a kid that will work hard to get everything out of what he has. Already love what I’ve seen from him defensively

Why are we talking hypotheticals when we know what happened and how the offense bogged down with Smart here? The Celtics woth Derrick White on the court had one of the best lineup combinations in the league both offensively and defensively

We shall see. I think the team will be better without Smart. I think he was a big part of the issue of why they couldn’t get over the humo. I also think this forces Tatum and Brown to step up. I hope I’m right.
I agree with the part that says, "This forces Tatum and Brown to step up" I think they might for a short while, but their egos will force them to revert back and maybe worse than they were. If a championship or a chance to make the finals again wasn't enough for them to step up, why would this?

agree could easily see them happy enough to play for their own brand going forward. they give off that impression anyway

so Tatum and Browns shooting woes are all on Smart. got it.
I don't want to hear about shooting in a Marcus Smart debate. 38% career from the field. One of the worst in NBA history. Teams constantly helped off of Smart because he can't hit the backboard. 100% made things more difficult for Tatum and Brown at times.

I hope this trade takes away a crutch for the Js, and they have to take more of a leadership role now that Marcus is gone.
The operative word is "hope." if a championship is 21-22 and a chance to be in the finals in 22-23 isn't enough for them to take on a leadership role in a game about winning regardless of who else is on the team and being the leadership that "QUIT" in a playoff game. I am not confident that aging will give them maturity over egos and make them joint leaders. Does joint leadership work? How many times has Tatum failed when needed in crucial games? How often has Brown failed to step up when required in meaningful games? I am not so confident that "hope" will work. Stevens is also "hoping" that Brodgon and White can take on the role that Marcus Smart played. White has never shown leadership, is that because he was afraid to step on someone's toes, the toes of Brown and Tarum are still there? Brogdon, before the Celtics, was always injury prone. While with the Celtics, his time on the court was managed, and he won the "6th Man" title. Now even older, we expect him to play full-time and be a leader and not be injured? I think there can only be one leader. Do the Celtics believe that White and Brogdon will share that responsibility? Sharing leadership, I has that ever worked for a basketball team?

For sure GRANT WILLIAMS will be gone. As WHITE moves into the Starting role PRITCHARD will be the backup. Exciting?
