I just think name calling is super childish.

I agree it's childish and I don't tend to engage with that sort of thing but we also follow young men playing a kid's game. I think an element of childishness is okay and at least can be tolerable.

I mean, it's better than saying "beanie" in every other post, but considering it's from the same person, I think we can all agree that they deserve to be sent to a farm upstate anyway, or at least have earned every uncontrolled rage reaction that they receive.

Agreed but I think there's enough wiggle room here to say that calling someone a smurf, accurate or not, isn't that bad. It's not something that needs corrective action or you're being creepy. Same for the open net miss sort of conduct. That has happened in GDT's many times during the Marleau/Thornton era. I'd need a concrete example of what we're talking about that crosses the line into creepy for whoever describes it as such. I didn't think our posters have been that way. Not sure about other platforms.

I think there’s a distinction between unpleasantness and harmful that has seemingly been blurred broadly across modern internet zeitgeist.

Calling a public figure a smurf may be unpleasant to read, but is not an attack on any member of the conversation, any helpless bystanders, or anyone other than someone who has entered a profession that at least tacitly makes room for this type of discussion. IMO, while in poor taste, it doesn’t rise to any level that requires action by moderators. At the same time, calling out and shunning that sort of vernacular by the greater community shouldn’t be unexpected either.

Basically, if you’re gonna be a f***ing weirdo, you’ll be treated like a f***ing weirdo.
