Normal people don't post on HF Sharks
I know the existence of 4chan will have you thinking differently, but it is extremely possible to be normal and post on a forum.

Specifically, I am referring to the weird behavior around Smith and Celebrini, who are teenagers. I'm not asking anyone to be an average hockey fan (which obviously none of us are), I'm asking us to be normal about how we talk about two teenagers online.

You say that but I still got dark mode.

it just defaults to system settings, you can change it to dark
Came back for me, this site is being powered by a hamster running on a wheel right now, lol

"A forum", sure, but  THIS forum?

Being a Sharks fan?

Not normal

Being passionate enough about it to post on a web 1.0 style message board decated to hockey prospects?

VERY not normal

We're all freaks

Freaks about hockey. Not freaks about teenage boys.

I agree but I will say that it's been frustrating with Smith since he's getting closer to where we want him to be but his execution is still off. Like positionally, he's in place to make more plays now than ever. The problem being that it also means that he's also in a position to flub on the play more than ever too.

Yeah did I miss something or are they just looking for something to complain about?
I may have missed something but being weird about young players can encompass many things.
I'd start by calling out anyone using the phrase "AHL Smith" or calling players "smurfs" when going out of your way to attack specific players.

Criticism is ok, being an obsessed creep is not.
I don't know that I would classify those two things as creepy though. Smurf is just a size thing. AHL is just a quality thing.

We should probably all be patient with Smith (and Celebrini, Mukh, Graf, etc) but it doesn't mean that it's weird to call out what they're doing well and what they really aren't doing well.

These kids are making $1MM/yr and will probably make $10-50MM lifetime earnings at least, and opposing teams and fans, the media, etc. are likely far harsher than we are.

I do think it's unhealthy for folks on this board to be drinking themselves silly / making up nicknames that only they use / etc. over Smith and the kids, but I also don't think the kids need any protection. If you're asking for change, it should be for you/the boards, not for the players.

It is weird to call forwards that are 6 feet tall smurfs, when that is the average size for an nhl forward in the nhl.

And about 3 inches taller then the average american male.

And most of the complaints about smiths failures stem from ridiculous expectations. Last game there was an entire page of complaining about smith missing a wide open net, when the puck was tipped by a defender.

Agreed but I think there's enough wiggle room here to say that calling someone a smurf, accurate or not, isn't that bad. It's not something that needs corrective action or you're being creepy. Same for the open net miss sort of conduct. That has happened in GDT's many times during the Marleau/Thornton era. I'd need a concrete example of what we're talking about that crosses the line into creepy for whoever describes it as such. I didn't think our posters have been that way. Not sure about other platforms.

Especially weird considering the CSO (Chief Smurf Offender) is most likely smaller than everyone they call a smurf
