Sad

Well as the article states, they can always join Junior C, so there would still very much be Junior Hockey.

This is so very sad and I said from the very beginning this was not the right way to go and as you can see this new league is not going the way they thought it would. The fan base is really down in many of these rinks and when they do get a good crowd it is only when the top 4 teams play each other. This league is going to keep going down and losing a a lot of fans.

Happens all the time really. Each year brings a lot of change to each roster. While some teams seem to consistently ice a competitive team, the majority of teams typically move up and down the standings.
But no doubt some teams have probably been hit harder than others with the increased fees required to play. A few team may not charge their best players, while others may have required payment from each player and as a result lost some good players along the way. $2500 is no small amount to pay. 1 practice a week and 40 odd games, a while trying to attend school or work a job.

How did they think it was going to go? I think you, I and many of us both on the forum and in the community saw this coming. Attendance is down (for many teams), and the calibre of play is down overall...and I haven't done a team by team study, but I would guess local players usage is down too.

Hypothetically, what would happen if say like 10 of the 16 teams, just dropped out of the CCHL2 and applied to Jr.C? I mean why not? You could go back to having mainly local players, paying little to no money. Travel costs would be down, and if enough teams did it then the old EOJHL rivalries could be resurrected. Sure, it would be 'c' instead of 'b,' but the players wouldn't care as most are playing this level of junior b/c they love the game (not cause they think they can get a scholarship - despite what the CCHL tells you). Local 'c' leagues work all over Ontario...why not an expanded one here?

If that happened then CCHL would attempt a takeover of Jr C and re-brand it CCHL3.

Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

Exactly, Jr C is still governed by the HEO. They can charge whatever "fees" they want to that league and decide how many teams and which ones are allowed into that league.

The only option would be an Outlaw league for any teams interested.

Good idea. The http://gmhl.net/ needs an Eastern Division.

Euros playing more like 20 to 30 k per year......buddy owns a team......thats why you see so many euros playing in that league....

Wow ! Well you just convinced me that starting the Eastern Division of the GMHL is my next move. That is some serious money to be made.

Does anyone know, or have they heard if the Royals were sold. I am hearing they were and are moving back to Richmond ?

Also heard that, likely a good move. On another note what's going on in Arnprior, 2 really bad ones in a row after changes made and adding 2 players at the deadline.

ALL STAR SHOW CASE: The All Star Showcase is a great idea to promote the young prospects. But BOYS...Not sure who was the mastermind behind the scheduling. 1998-1999 players are in the most important years of high school, and they are playing ALL STAR games during exam week with 9:15 and 9:30 puck drops on school nights. Plus they have games overlapping. How is a scout supposed to watch 4 games at the same time? CMON man... there had to be a way to schedule this on Saturday. Don't think they were thinking of the Students best interest, only thinking of the hockey player. Don't kids need good grades to attract US Colleges? My 2 cents

Yeah not sure who thought this was going to be a good idea. We were told that that week off was because of Exams and now you have games. Not sure they totally thought that one through

Arnprior with a huge 7-6 win in Alexandria on Saturday night. Galasso, Monk, and Ollson combined for 14 points. Goaltender Kealey left game early in the 2nd after a collision.

What a game for the CCHL2 98/99's last night! 2-1 Richardson over Martin.

Totally agree!

Casselman Viking's Oliver Castleman was one of the best forwards in game. He's making a valid case to continue his move up the hockey ladder.

Alexandria's talented goalie Campbell looked nervous to start, but settled in and showing well.

Wesport's Villalta and OJC's Nielsen, both played solid Defense first games. Both Big kids who see the ice well and should continue to blossom.

Athen's Spencer, Perth's Vala played solid physical games with numerous offensive sparks. and the Two Clarence players; Fournier and Griffith didn't look out of place either.

In all, a great showing for these 8 young players. Truly promising futures for each.

Could someone please enlighten me.

At what time are the individuals who referee at the junior level, held accountable for their performance.

Last night during the OJC- OWGK game, the referee (Boucher) assigned to the game chose to make the game about himself and not about the game being played.

"Ottawa Canadians 88 minutes on 17 infractions Ottawa West Golden Knights 10 minutes on 5 infractions"

To anyone simply looking at the game sheet it would appear as if OJC was out of control, yet to those in attendance, it was clear, some infractions were just but a vast majority were not.

And to clarify, all but 4 minutes came after an OWGK player was hit very hard into the boards. The hit originally was not called an infraction, but the cautious and proper trainers from both OJC and OWGK, deemed medical assistance was required. The injured player was removed from the ice via EMC professionals. The severity of the injury was not known but the player was moving all 4 limbs as he left ice... Quick and professional actions of both trainers should be acknowledged and all thoughts are the injury suffered will be minor and not serious.

That stated, the hit was reviewed by video (which I did not know was an allowable option) and the referee called a boarding major as a result.

From that point forward... OJC suffered unfairly and things escalated to absolutely unacceptable levels. culminating with the game being stopped with 3+ minutes left in the game, because the referee deemed it was out of control.

Did OJC deserve some penalties, absolutely! but this referee failed to make calls both ways and spent more time 'chirping' at the OJC coaches who clearly were frustrated with how things were unfolding, than keeping control of what was going on the ice.

I have heard from CCHL1 and CCHL2 people, that this particular referee has history with losing control of things. so I ask again - why is there so little accountability with the officials to allow this type of refereeing to repeatedly happen! - just asking!
